Day 18 Camp 8/19/2014 Tweets, Articles, Photos, Video

There are lots of things that require surgery that aren't tears, full or partial. Could be bone spurs, arthroscopic cleaning or a number of other things.

I know thats what there reporting but the words there using make it sound a lot worse then just clearing up some cartilage. You see it all time in sports "oh its just a minor thing" "should be back in a few weeks" etc. Then two weeks later its quietly announced player so and so is out for the year. Not saying Parris wont be back but I am always leerie when I hear its a minor issue but surgery is needed.

George McDonald said freshmen receivers Jamal Custis and Steve Ishmael will contribute immediately.

George McDonald had the same reaction to both Jamal Custis and Ishmael. "Oh he'll play."

he might be a "good fit" in time. but, has he ever played TE before?

Not sure, but he has the measurables and skill set to make the "Y" a matchup nightmare, but a lot will depend on how quickly he can learn that position and its playbook.

I expect Moore to start against Nova assuming his legs are back.

Lester: "Right now, Austin has been playing the best. AJ is right there with him. AJ probably would have been the 2. Then his arm got sore."

Lester said he likes AJ Long's mobility and decision-making ability even after a play breaks down.

Lester on Long: "We probably couldn't run the entire offense yet with him, but he just keeps getting more and more comfortable."

DeAndre Smith reiterated that George Morris II is "light years" better in pass blocking. Allows staff to leave him in on more 3rd downs.

By having surgery right away it might not be an ACL...hope it is just a 2-4 week thing.

Edit: Saw this...about as good news as we can hope
Shafer said Parris' injury is similar to Enoicy's. Just cleaning out cartilage. Hopefully shouldn't be a long recovery process.

Smith said Devante McFarlane, who wore a non-contact jersey today, is fine: "It was something that he definitely did not want to be in."

Smith said that after PTG, Morris, McFarlane and Adonis Ameen-Moore are all interchangeable. No No. 2 guy. Erv Philips not in mix yet.

Smith added that the two-back sets that we've seen in practice are also interchangeable. Could see more of those with Parris' injury, IMO.

Smith said Ameen-Moore is not being used in any specific power/short yardage sets. Staff trusts him to do anything, including catch passes.

Four weeks from tomorrow is Sept. 17 - and he'll miss just the Villanova and Central Michigan games. I would like to hope that we can get through those to games without him.

Hopefully he can play vs. Maryland and if not, against ND. Until then, more reps for Custis and an opportunity for him to get his feet wet.

Remember when all of those Minnesota fans came here to talk trash about how great they were?

That was pretty funny.

I told you guys that fanbase was chock full of delusional dullards [full disclosure: I live in Minneapolis]. I got rebuked by a handful of the gopher fans posting here... only for each one of them to completely prove that my criticisms were 100% accurate.

And not surprisingly, not one of those bad sports showed up here after the bowl to congratulate us for whipping them. To hell with that fanbase.

That's a wrap for me with the Camp Threads. Thank you OrangeXtreme for all your assistance in putting these threads together.
