Day 18 Camp 8/19/2014 Tweets, Articles, Photos, Video

Smith said Devante McFarlane, who wore a non-contact jersey today, is fine: "It was something that he definitely did not want to be in."

Smith said that after PTG, Morris, McFarlane and Adonis Ameen-Moore are all interchangeable. No No. 2 guy. Erv Philips not in mix yet.

Smith added that the two-back sets that we've seen in practice are also interchangeable. Could see more of those with Parris' injury, IMO.

Smith said Ameen-Moore is not being used in any specific power/short yardage sets. Staff trusts him to do anything, including catch passes.

I love it, with all the WR's and RB's allows the staff to run a ton of plays. Issue is the OL getting tired and if Hunt runs getting fatigued.

Felt like we were right there at camp these past few weeks. Muchos grasias.

One note: Thankfully SU is a running team and all those guys have been almost too healthy this summer. That's great news.

It's so refreshing having detailed explanations of injuries, vs upper and lower body. Man that was frustrating.

That's a wrap for me with the Camp Threads. Thank you OrangeXtreme for all your assistance in putting these threads together.

These were great. Thanks to both of you.

Figure out how to sneak into the closed practices, so Bees can formally retire.

Ashton Broyld is an H-back again while Sean Avant has been moved out wide. @ccarlsononSU has more on the switch: http://bit.ly/1pbBc5Z

This is a pretty big move right here. Wasn't really expecting it. I thought you had to have your 2 best play makers on the field at same time. I would think Estime needs to be on the field as much as possible. It must have been Broyld's inability to catch?

Move Broyld to H back. I echo anomander! You need your 2 best play makers on the field.

Someone explain this, I don't get it.

If he needs surgery its definitely some sort of a tear at least a partial. The first thought is usually ACL when you hear lower body but the fact that he hasnt already been declared out for the reason is at least a small ray of hope. That being said I wouldnt be shocked if the announcement in the next few weeks has him out for the year.
Might just be a meniscus

Might just be a meniscus

If it's meniscus it's literally 50/50 until they get in there to see if it needs to be removed or stitched up. If it's removed he could be back in 7-10 days. If it gets stitched you could be looking at 2-3 months.

I told you guys that fanbase was chock full of delusional dullards [full disclosure: I live in Minneapolis]. I got rebuked by a handful of the gopher fans posting here... only for each one of them to completely prove that my criticisms were 100% accurate.

And not surprisingly, not one of those bad sports showed up here after the bowl to congratulate us for whipping them. To hell with that fanbase.
Great city, the only other cold weather I'd move to. Been there a
number of times.

I like the plan to move Ashton around and let him be what he Is... a match up nightmare.

I'll spin this positive (as I usually do ) and say if the staff feel confident enough to move Broyld from WR that means they've been seeing very good things from the rest of that group. I really have high hopes for Steve Ismael in particular. You don't hand the number 8 to just any WR at SU.

I don't think Broyld is comfortable playing outside in space. From what I have seen he struggled to catch balls that don't hit him in the chest. Flemming and Ishmael are better options outside.

Many thanks to CuseLegacy and OrangeXtreme for their great work covering training camp. And while I am at it, I should give props to the writers from the PS and DO, who provided all the stories those two have been so busy linking to.

I think this was the best coverage of a Syracuse training camp I have ever seen from the local media. Well done everyone. Even Bud had an article or two of value!
