Day 6 - Good Friday in the Portal

A question regarding the portal. If a kid would be academically ineligible at his current school, would he (she) be automatically eligible at their new ‘portal’ school? I was wondering if players who would be suspect academically could also be getting a freebie from repercussions by entering the portal?
Good question. It sticks in my mind that you had to be in good academic standing to transfer under the old, traditional system.

Can't see how waiting helps anyone if mind is already made up to leave. What's the fact pattern that benefits Woody if he is 100% gone as people have stated.
It could be some of the more patient portal participants are looking to get quiet confirmation of their landing spot before making the jump. For Woody the KR situation may be a tale of warning. It kind of looks like a disappointing list of suitors for KR. So while KR may have done a move to rile up the fan base against JB, it's starting to look like a lose/lose proposition.

With a cooler head, Woody could be looking at the places where he would end up and determine if it is a better situation.

P.S. - posters now say 100 or 1000 as pure hype.

How do you know the list of suitors for Kadary? I think Jay Bilas or somebody ranked the top 100 in the portal and Kadary was #7. Kadary is going bigtime and the ultimate slap in the face is that he might go to Duke.

If he went to Duke, bet JB would have given his ok.

Well the list that has been mentioned is pretty mediocre. Maybe he’s got something cooking behind the scenes. Our fans are doing a little overvaluing of Kadary. He’s good but there are plenty of stronger players out there.

Guess that’s not true. Answering my own question I think. All academic penalties are suspended so student athletes failing and in danger of losing eligibility would be okay to transfer and compete immediately. I wonder how many might be escaping academic rules regarding their eligibility are entering the portal. This rule is for both this year and next year.

APR stats won’t be published this year nor next. No wonder UNC received no punishment regarding academics from the NCAA. So a student athlete not only can compete if they are failing for the team that they currently attend but they can freely transfer and be immediately eligible at their new portal school. Wonder how that works at schools that have set standards for dismissal for non athletic students? Maybe someone else has more insights.

Yeah, cuz Coach K likes point guards who don't like having any restrictions placed on em, or else they'll become a cancer, and K has a zero percent chance of recruiting a top notch PG otherwise...

No they're not -- if anything, YOU'RE doing a lot of under-valuing, based upon a bunch of rationalization BS.

Your takes these past few days about Kadary and his value proposition have been off the wall, putting it mildly.

Is it a foregone conclusion that Griffin is leaving? I'm not an insider so I don't know. He should be the one that we should hope is back. The kid has total stud potential. Again, I know almost everybody here has given up on him but I'm at a loss on that subject. I'll be the president of his fan club even if I am a cult of one.

That dice post wasn't promising.

I see Swider as a 3 who can play the 4 but doesn’t rebound very well offensively or much at all.

If we got him, we would need a "traditional" 6-8, 230-240 lb PF who can rebound and defend the post. Swider could be a good piece, if you have the other proper pieces around him.

I like your posts but I think you’ve gone too far in the other direction. Not as much as others but placing blame in one direction only. We can agree to disagree. I like Kadary and wish he stayed. I think he would have played close to 30 next year and we would have been better for it. I don’t blame the coach though. Kadary played a lot this year and would have played even more next. He wants a guarantee and we will see where he gets it. He also probably doesn’t mesh with Boeheim’s style. I don’t blame him for that as not everyone does and he has options to go elsewhere.

Where I get frustrated is everyone acting like it is the end of the world. He was and would have been a good fit but doesn’t want to be here. Good luck to him elsewhere.

"Blame" doesn't factor into my assessment.

Kadary was a rare talent. Our head coach let him walk.

I'M frustrated that people act like this...

...when in actuality, we lost a high major talent at the most important position in college basketball.

I'm tired of combo guards, I'm tired of subpar play at lead guard. We finally land a premier talent with preternatural court vision and lead guard aptitude, and we let him walk??? And a portion of our fanbase try to downplay the impact of the loss?

C'mon.

I'd say we only want Sid to come back with the idea being he'd be a backup to our starter. Relying on his knees seems like a foolish bet.

you can’t make the club from the tub

So basically with all these great shooters, we need a legit point guard (not happening) and someone who can board at the wing...still hoping this can happen.

and backup center..who knows

I don’t see Kadary in the same way as you. He’s good but not a superstar. Maybe he becomes all that but that takes work and time. He has faults that he needs to improve upon. He would have got there here but not to be.

It will be interesting to see where he lands. If its a lateral move then other top teams aren’t seeing him at the top tier level yet and aren’t promising him anything more than we are.

Obviously. I don't know that I've agreed with an RF post more, and that's saying something. Especially the tired of combo guard statement, and sub play from lead guards. The worst is people downplaying the loss like he said. Uggh...
