Day Nine Football Camp: Wed. August 9, 2017

OL talent is the area that concerns me the most heading into the season.

That's a pretty scary comment considering what our DL looks like at the moment. Need a huge influx of talent/bodies on defensive trenches...

Don't see too many games in person, but went to the ND game last year. Much different perspective than on tv and it was glaring how physically over matched we were on both sides of the line. ND had mammoths on OL & DL. Two of their OL will be first round picks in the next draft. Unfortunately for ND, Brian Kelly blows. Imagine our offense with ND's OL. Oh baby.

Some things never change. Run the ball, protect the QB, stop the run, get after the opposing QB. We need bigs to compete.

"Everyone thinks they know what happened to me," Dungey said, "but they're not doctors."

He said he could've played late in the season, and a second opinion from a non-SU doctor confirmed that belief after evaluating Dungey before Thanksgiving. But it wasn't enough for the team physician, Dr. James Tucker, to clear Dungey to play."

Hmmm...

Breaking News: Dr. Tucker just disqualified the entire football team and coaches, stating they all had a hearing disability. It is believed that Carlos Santana is the cause!

Do you think some of the young guys are talented but not ready yet or is it that we just aren't that talented?

My seats at the Dome are very close to the field and you're right, tv does not do justice to the size difference between us and just about every P-5 team we played. And, it's not just the lineman (actually, we have decent size on the OL)...most of our LBs, DBs, RBs were all over matched size wise, let alone speed and strength.

Probably the image that best drove this home for me was watching Riley, all 150 pounds of him, trot out there to return kickoffs. He has to be one of the bravest guys on the team.

I don't think we know that yet. What we do know is that they struggled to get it done last year and in the Spring game (not sure how meaningful that was, but man it was painful to watch). I think another year older and another year in the S&C will make a difference. How much is the question. If we can't run the ball...

That makes sense. All I'm hoping for is a reasonable improvement. If we can get that along with a TE that LB's have to pay attention to and some blocking help from our young FB that is the size of an OG, hopefully we'll have a functional running game.

If Erv stays healthy he might get 120-130 catches.

I think he'll stay around where he was or maybe drop a little. I think the bigger change will be an increase in yardage.
