Day Nine Spring Practice: Monday, March 28, 2022

Oronde Gadsden #19. I have a feeling with him. I’ve been seeing a lot of media around him this spring seemingly making plays at WR (pics and vid’s). The way I just saw him in the video come back to the ball and use his hands fluidly to catch the football perfectly in motion was poetry to my eyes. Just a simple comeback route but it was executed well and it was FLUID. It looked easy and comfortable. Something I haven’t seen much of lately at outside WR.

He is my WR breakout candidate this year. 6’5” he has ACC size. Him and Alford will be tough matchups, throw in Hatcher emerging also…. I think we have this outside WR group in a better direction by leaps and bounds this year. Queely is going to be pushed big time for his starting spot. This can only make him better too.

Great, with everything you were able to find out, Dino is going to shut off all media access. ;)

I agree with that Gadsden prediction. Really like what he seems to be showing. At 6-5" 215 lbs he really looks fluid out there. Has nice breaks on his routes and a large catch radius and everything just looks smooth and under control. Seems natural. Great things considering he is just a true frosh. It seems like it always takes our tall WR's several years of development before they are high end contributors. If he can develop into a true #1 this year that is huge for the offense.

I really like Hatcher as well. Glad he was able to gain some weight coming into this spring and hopefully that is a sign that will continue. Wouldn't surprise me to see him in the rotation this year and earn a starting roll next year.
Gadsen is not a true fresh, he was here last year.

Exactly. DBs should never get beat
Easy Phat. Not saying that he won't be any good. Just pointing out a rep that was not so good. Not sure if you had noticed that was him or not as it wasn't addressed in this thread. If we are going to praise him from small sample size of info we might as well call out the not so good reps we see as well so people don't jump to ridiculous expectations and expect him to start this year.

You are right. Fans tend to do this at times. Including me. We all have our favorite commits and want them to pan out. It doesn’t mean we can’t critique what we see at times.

From the presser:

Rob Hanna elbow. 4-6 week injury. Done for Spring. Will be fine for Summer.

Kalan Ellis sprained ankle.
Surprised Dino mentioned injuries. Really seemed excited about LaQuint. RB room maybe stacked this year.
WR still seems the unknown. Wonder if they attempt to take another guy from the portal.

to bad for Hanna but given the new guys in the secondary I was already thinking he was going to drop to third string.

Ditto. Very unlike him to give detail on "owies" like that.

LeQuint being legit is HUUUUGE - means we've got 3 solid RB's in the rotation.

Also thought it telling that Dino said they're looking at the portal for every position.
Now, that may be just coach-speak to a degree, but it also says that he and the staff are not sitting pat, and that everybody is in a competition for their spot, which is (of course) how it should be.

That said - I think that, in reality, the only spots we really need portal help, and ASAP are:
DL (maybe 2?), WR, and maybe C ?

oronde’s still potentially a year out physically imo. Though the hands are there.

except nobody mentioned anything about him playing early because of some video clips. The praise was because of comments and things people have said.

who said anything about starting?
