Class of 2018 DE Brenton Cox (GA) Transferring from Georgia to Florida

The NCAA routinely conducts random drug tests of all athletes after NCAA/NIT Tournament games.

If you fail an NCAA drug test, you are suspended for a year, your school will have to vacate any games it won (since it used an ineligible player), the school will forfeit any $$$ it earned during the tournament, and the school is ineligible for next year's tournament.

The only way to prevent any "surprises" is for each school to conduct random tests of its own about 2-3 weeks before the NCAA tournament starts.

Of course, the only way a school can conduct its' own tests is if a school has its' own drug test policy in effect.

While it's true that the NCAA does not mandate that schools have a drug test policy, you damn well better have one. Or pray that you've got 13 boy scouts on the team.

All it takes is one Frank Howard...

"The NCAA drug-testing program, along with clear policies and effective education, protects student-athletes who play by the rules by playing clean. The purpose of the drug-testing program is to deter student-athletes from using performance-enhancing drugs, and it impacts the eligibility of student-athletes who try to cheat by using banned substances. The NCAA tests for steroids, peptide hormones and masking agents year-round and also tests for stimulants and recreational drugs during championships. Member schools also may test for these substances as part of their athletics department drug-deterrence programs."

The above is from the NCAA page; the qualifying word "may" is the issue. When you look at our university's issues of the past, on this issue; you see us being penalized for not following our own policy. Other schools have gone through these issues with less penalty. We have lawyers who can help us craft policies that leave us less exposed.
I am not supporting drug use or that the university should do nothing about the issue.
We just can't have policies that are easily violated by a poor understanding of the rules, by our coaches.
Two things must happen; clear policy that is easy to understand, by all involved and that don't mandate we shoot ourselves in the foot, unnecessarily.

Test for PEDs? Sure, I guess.
As long as programs like Bama & Clemson are also doing so routinely.

Test for weed? Or other recreational drugs?
Why??
Are any non-athlete students being tested for those?

The only performance that weed ‘enhances’, is the ability to mow down a whole box of Cap’n Crunch in one sitting. :p

(So, we should get Marek a “medical” script ASAP! )

Weed is legal in many states, and likely will be in all of them sooner rather than later.
There’s just too much tax revenue there for the taking, that the non-legalized states will get woke soon and start taking a hit.

NCAA says you can't play under the influence of weed.

Unless the NCAA changes the rules, or the top 80 schools break away to form a new country, it is what it is.
