Even when I was a stringer when I was younger they'd use my headlines. And you were writing and then laying out your story?
Edit - but that was for a smaller paper.

Laying out more than just my story.
You still in the industry?Wow, that's a pretty rare setup. I did a lot of that at smallish papers but once I got to a bigger one (and I worked at three and had a lot of dealings with the Post) editorial and writing were very separate entities. I mean when I was designing pages I'd absolutely take a stringer's header into account but depending on where and how it was laid out I often had to ditch it.
That's what she said.Laying out more than just my story.
I think people on this board are really sensitive. I'm not trying to be a and I used to be a journalist so maybe I'm the one who's sensitive in the other direction. I think the story does a good job of accurately reporting what was going on with the recruit. It's certainly not anti-Syracuse. The headline could have been better but I don't really read it as slamming syracuse. I don't know, all in all I think it's a good story with a not-great but hardly inflammatory headline. :noidea:

I’ve read articles today from NJ.com (northern jersey’s post standard) the Sun Sentinel, Miami-Herald, Tampa Tribune, Atlanta Journal and in none of those papers did I see a backhanded headline directed at the local school(s) for ‘landing’ a player. Not one. But we’re sensitive? :noidea:
I don’t think the headline describes the content of the article at all. In the Miami Herald article, they said the Syracuse coaches were blowing up his phone all day long on Tuesday making sure he was committed to them. They didn't say, Nelson wanted to commit to Georgia but they were full. In fact they commended Nick Monroe as killing it down in South Florida, 2nd to only Dennis Erickson for out of state schools. Bailey’s headline implies we only got him because Georgia was full. I haven’t seen one shred of print or quote anywhere else that suggests that’s why we got him.
It’s not slamming Syracuse, but it’s backhanded headline that carries a negative tone. Didn't see anything similar in any other newspaper article I read today.
**On a side note the Miami Herald also quoted Nelson as being excited to suit up against his former teammate - Wake LB Jaboree Williams, anyone remember him?
Was offered an editorial position at a mid-market paper, similar to the PS. When I saw the salary would be less than 1K per year of my life up to that point I bounced. Jumped into sales, best decision of my life.Nah -- I was for 9 years. You?

I only spent about 2 years full-time in newspaper, and, I hated it. The pay was insult to injury.
I think I just dated myself.Nope he's talkin J-Kwon!
I don't know about that. I think the song I referenced is ten years old or so. Maybe more.I think I just dated myself.
Does this sound like he seriously considered UGA?
From OrangeFizz:
As for the race between SU, Georgia and Kentucky, Dunbar says there really wasn’t much to that: “His heart was always set on Syracuse once he committed…I think the deciding factor was that in addition to having a coaching staff that Coach Babers has put together…he’s up there with guys that he feels he was a very strong bond with.”
It was a direct quote from his High School Coach...how can you put a Rutgers spin on an actual quote?I like the comment but it kind of sounds like a rutgers esque type argument. Kid definitely seemed high on uga to me...

I don't think they were full either as they offered a Grad transfer from URI, Tyler Catalina, on signing Day even though he was supposedly going to Iowa State. He is still planning a visit to UGA.I also dont understand the UGA cupboard was full debate. They werent. They only signed 20 guys (possibly 1 more) with room for 25 - and werent exactly stocked on DE/OLB this go round.
I have a buddy who is a booster at UGA that I had lunch with last week, and although he admitted being more out of the loop than usual at signing day, he was very surprised to hear the inn was full. Said there was almost no way that was actually said.
