DE Ramar Dennis offered

Who are all these hybrd DE/OLB types that Syracuse has supposedly brought in?
No one said that. I was just saying there is a little flexibility in the mix of players you end up taking in a given class but the flexibility is limited.

Regarding the comment on a highly recruited player being added to the class late, it has happened just about every recruiting class of the DM era. The SU staff likes to keep in contact with highly regarded players and likes to do it in sleath mode. We shouldn't ignore history when it comes to recruiting...

tom - reread the clip from the phone - whoever wrote that said "with all the hybrid de/olb's doug marrone has brought in it makes for an interesting debate."

He announced his top 4 on twitter. They are, Syracuse, Southern Alabama, Illinois, Florida Atlantic

@GregBiggins Blue-chip DL Eddie Vanderdoes has de-committed from #USC & is opening up the recruiting process

jk jk

I think we would like to take

1 OT
1 OG
1 RB
1 DE/OLB
1 CB

I think our board looks like this:

OT
1. Jaylen Hunter
2. Chongo Kondolo
OG
1. Alex Hayes
2. Dionte Savage
RB
1. Laray Smith
2. Nico Gambill
DE/OLB
1. Ebo Ogundeko
2. Ramar Dennis
CB
1. Boaz Joseph
2. Travon Reid

My guess is we take one from each position. If we don't get the kids we want, we can save the schollies for next year, or to add a transfer or two later.

Also would not be surprised at all if some big name comes in late for a visit and ends up committing here. Especially if Syracuse beats West Virginia on Saturday.

Tom--any thoughts on where SU stands with that OT / hoops player from Bishop Kearney?

Class of 2014. I think we are aware of him but my guess is that he is going to need to come into camp and get tested/play against good competition before he gets an offer.

I will have a look at the class of 2014 for New York State shortly after the season ends. It looks like an exceptional year for skilled athletes. Not a good year for linemen.

Ah--didn't realize that he was class of 2014. Thanks, Tom.

That would be a tall order landing him

SU in Dennis' final four along with Illinois, Florida Atlantic and South Alabama. He likes the coaches, that we are in the ACC and he'd have a chance to play close to home. Steve Morrison is his recrutier. He plans on visiting everyone but Illinois.

Have to like our chances if his other visits are to FAU and South Alabama, those schools are not even close to being on the same level as us.

But do they have coaches?

If we get him it will lessen the blow of not getting Rakim Peters cause he isn't going to the Cuse.

if he's not visiting illinois and essentially down to syracuse, fau and south alabama - yawn - then maybe he doesn't have an illini offer.

Yawn? Kid's tape looks pretty good and would be a nice get.

Besides just because you received an offer it doesn't mean you are required to visit ... maybe he just knows its a wasted trip ... not much to do in that part of the state anyway.

Why put them in top four then? Illinois is in my top four but I'm not going to visit them? Makes sense.

Plethora of reasons ... why don't you call and ask him instead of me?

make sure you let me know the next high school kid who 'signs' with a school he's never visited.

He may or may not have an offer from Illinois but it's silly to put them in the top four if hes not going to visit

Zach Allen committed before he even set foot on campus ... is that a good enough example for you? Cameron Lynch ... actually pretty sure sans Manley all the GA recruits committed before taking their officials. It happens quite often because kids want to grab a scholarship but living far away makes setting up trips difficult so they commit early then go see the campus. I also think Marquis Hodge committed before setting foot on campus ... again long distance commits do this more than you realize.

Some kids are ready to leave mommy and daddy. Some aren't. My philosophy was toe encourage my two sons to leave the state. We lived in NJ and both went to school in Massachusets. One inBoston and the other in Amerst. Both learned to be independent and self reliant and both graduated. One has a masters and the other is here in LA getting rich. Some kids just aren't ready to leave home and get away from the nest. Insome cases thats good for Syracuse and in state kids who want to be close.

This has absolutely nothing to do with my post ...
