I actually thought Nichols would be the one Cuse alum option for our open assistant position, ever since he’d moved to the Raptors a couple seasons ago. But the Straughn hire just made a ton of sense.

I'd be glad to have Syracuse alumni come coach for Syracuse after years of coaching in other systems. Hiring an assistant with years of NBA coaching experience seems to have no downside.

There will probably be openings on Red's staff pretty soon at any rate, especially if they really do well.
