Did Boeheim really say this?

Has anyone wondered what he meant by experiment? It obviously doesn’t mean he doesn’t make adjustments. To me , it means that in game he tries only the things they practice and can do well. Every word he utters draws such outrage, it’s almost funny.

I hear what you're saying Cherie, and that was sort of what I way saying earlier. However, the words he uses right now are just dumb, which is what outrages some fans. He's gotten stale, incoherent, inconsistent, and illogical. That said, I actually respect the hell out of Jim. I'm just done with this current version. You call it funny, I call it sad.

He specifcally said that didnt want to play the lineup with Jimmy at center preseason because it wasnt good. So idea he will only try the things they can do well in practice, it’s just not true.

JB says things.

The reality is Jimmy, joe, and Buddy are playing all the minutes and taking all the shots because he has an objectivity blind spot and thinks they’re better than they actually are.

All these “things” he says are just attempted narratives and diversion.

“I like this job, I’ve had it for a long time, Paul.” Boeheim said. “I’ve had it because I play the best players. I never have experimented in 46 years. And I’m certainly not going to start experimenting now. That’s not the way you coach. That’s not the way you do anything. Anybody in any line of work that just tries an experiment doesn’t know what they’re doing. This isn’t a chemistry lab.”

A friend posted this, and it is so stupid I almost can't believe he actually said it. Cursory google brought up nothing, so I figured I would check with the experts.
Translation: I'm playing Jimmy & Joey & Buddy the whole game and if I had a Skippy, Scooter & Rusty I'd play them too. This is how I make my fives and you can't make me do them any different.

Because it’s a ridiculous statement. He experimented playing man again LeMoyne before didn’t he? I’d say changing from quick athletic and long player style to a slow, unathletic shooting team was an experiment.

It’s not outrage, it’s a collective eye roll to a dumb comment.

Yes because they haven’t had any practices since preseason, have they? So as I said, he does his “experimenting“ in practices, not in games which JB himself confirmed by his comment. It makes sense because like I said if something isn’t done in practice well, he wouldn’t do it in a game. So sometime during preseason, from 5 months ago to 2 and a half months ago, he tried it in practice and didn’t like the results and didn’t use it till a week or so ago for a short period because it worked better later on in practice. The things that people will die over and make a big deal of to fit an agenda. :p

it worked fantastic in the game so you have a solid point here.

Sooo inovation in like any industry happens how then?
Through careful thought and implementation. More of an eastern than a western philosophy, one tries to look at a problem from all angles and think each possible solution out before implementing a change of plan. I do not remember SU playing an almost exclusive zone defense in the beginning of Coach Boeheim's tenure. I recall a D.O. article where Fast Eddy Moss was talking about the man-to-man principle of defense he was adjusting to from high school to college. He called it King Me or King You. Whoever won the matchup was King.

JB really went to the zone almost exclusively as a reaction to a thin roster brought on by our first probation if I recall correctly. Western philosophy if management is a little more shoot from the hip.
Both philosophies have inherent strengths and weaknesses. Lou Carnesecca would use his Ambush "Bush" Defense based on a gut feeling of when the time was right. He had success with that more than once. Like the debate in baseball of should one go strictly by analytics or should one be guided by analytics but couple that with a "gut" feeling.

Why in his mind is it an experiment, to try something new as an alternative to something that is not working ???

as for playing the best players, the five best players are not static as it can depend on matchups and who is hot or not in a particular game.

It wasn’t good at the time. There have been a lot of practices since then.

They’re playing roughly the same minutes and taking the same number of shots as Battle, Howard, and Brissett did a few years ago. This is what he does.
