Did Duke's Cutcliffe turn down Michigan?

If true, good for him. He's got a good thing going at Duke, and likely a job for life. Nice to see a coach turn down one of the big boys.

I get the impression, from his coaching migration, that Cutcliffe is a southern boy, and at 60 has found his final home. Having said that, how far has Michigan fallen?

I believe it. He has a great job in a nice place where expectations are low. Obviously Michigan is going to deny this but there are some reputable sources saying they at least gauged Cutcliffe's interests.

I'm told that this is completely false.

I tend to agree. Could it be an agent leaking it in order to try and get Michigan to move faster? I'm thinking Schiano would benefit from them making a decision sooner than later.

I've heard through the grapevine that this was just Brandt trying to get something to stick. Cutcliffe doesn't have an agent, the search firm that Michigan has contacted isn't even remotely close to making offers, and he wasn't even contacted about the opening.

I wasn't clear, but I was thinking it might be an agent for someone like Schiano, not Cutcliffe's agent, trying to throw a bunch of names out there. You'd have to think someone has already talked to people connected to Miles and Harbaugh?

I understood - I hear it was just Brandt throwing crap at a wall. Schiano has already reached out to Michigan to express his interest. I understand Miles has reached out too through his agent, and the discussions with Harbaugh have been through back channels such as alum and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.

Of course you were.

Mort is saying the same thing.

How Mort knows for sure when this isn't his sweet spot is beyond me, but he seems to get anything out of anyone. CIA should have hired him to interrogate at Gitmo. We'd know everything.
