Dino Babers’ decision to wait for offensive line swap was justified (what we learned)

Because you have a lot of “want to”?

As long as it doesn’t “snowball into something that catches fire” then I think we’re safe here
Good Lord...those make me "want to" break things...

Has Vettorello ever played C before? I'll be thrilled that he could be the guy for the next 3 years.

O-line went thru a lot of struggles this year but I'm encouraged by the improvement they've shown these past two games. Think they'll get a lot better next year as a unit. Now to fix the front seven...

Lots of propaganda. Lots of cover.

You don’t think guys get better in practice over the course of the season?

I’ll trust that the guy who makes millions at this as a career that won 10 games last year is not a friggin moron, before I trust the frustrated rants of Internet posters who have never made a dime off this sport.

Improvement is good. I'm happy the OL is looking better, not just better because they couldn't be worse but actually looking decent. Can't win with how bad they were most of the season.

I don't think so. I do however think he should stay at center going forward. A healthy Heckel or Tisdale comes in at guard for Adams. The rest of the line is set.
What I’m hearing is that they love Redd. He probably takes over RT next year and Bergeron moves inside.

What the article fails to address is the salient question.
Did the line improve by moving switching Vet and Serva?
The statistics overwhelmingly say yes. Sacks have been significantly reduced. Running yards significantly increased. Penalties reduced. Points scored increased. Simply put the switch has resulted in a major improvement.
I dont question that Vet has struggled at the center position. As the article points out he made mistakes in the Louisville game. What the article fails to point out is that he made many mistakes playing tackle.
We can debate the ifs, whats, and whens until the cows come home which is what makes this board fun.
Given the marked improvement of oline play since his move to center or better framed since Serva moved to tackle it is my lay person opinion that the move should have been tried much earlier and during a home game.

Actually the article said exactly that. Did you read the whole thing? One of the primary issues was that Vettorello couldn't snap the ball, a pretty important thing to do in a shotgun offense. Given that he had a number of off target and ill timed snaps, it's easy to believe he would have been a disaster there earlier in the season. 2+ months of practice can allow a guy to get better, especially a young one.

Reading comprehension seems to be an issue with some posters.

Exactly and not banging on the kid at all but he did have a couple of critical snapping mistakes on Saturday. It stands to reason these things could've been x5 earlier in the season. Hindsight is always 20/20 but I can't fault a coach for not gambling on Vet at the center spot in September or even October.

Boeheim is a classic example of a coach who plays every game to win. He doesn't play kids in key spots who aren't ready, even against the Bucknells of the world. He doesn't play for tomorrow, he doesn't play for next year. He plays for the here and now. I think the OL deal was the same scenario. Maybe HCDB waited too long but I can't fault them. Their view is different than ours.

How did they not have a 2nd option at center to start the year that didn’t require playing musical chairs with the line?

If Heckel needed to catch his breathe for a couple plays who was coming in for him? Servais? What if he needed someone to come in for him because he was tired from already playing tackle?

Honestly, sounds like pretty bad planning.

They had 3 centers and probably a 4th working there I don’t know about. Heckel, Servais, Durieg. Heckel and Durieg got hurt.
