What will it take for McCord to suit up in the bowl?

Looking at the tankathon mock draft - no Kyle in the first three rounds. The question then becomes whether or not he could play himself into Round 3 with a big bowl game.

Of course, I am not commenting on the sanity, or lack thereof, that this kid doesnt already belong in the third round or better.
I would imagine McCord and the NFL have all the tape they need. A "big bowl" game won't move the needle much. The Combine will be the next most important factor. He needs to start preparing for that.

Kids just dont care as much as fans. Plain and simple. Everything that has changed in college football over the past 2-3 seasons its never going to be the same.

Look at the kid from west virginia (the qb who we played in 2018). Sat out the bowl and was a zero in the nfl. Kids want to get paid. Thats it. Give me money. Im not risking anything playing in the whatever bowl. If there is even a hint of being drafted they are done.

Its the reason why i really could care less about the bowl game. If we go and win great. If we dont oh well. I dont attend bowl games so its a non issue for me. Look at last year. Most embarrassing game possibly in syracuse football history. We overcame it.

We win the bowl game in 2018 for our 10th win and it went nowhere the next few seasons.

Im too old and have been around the block enough to not get all worked up over this stuff. If he doesnt play so be it. Move on to the next kid
Shedeur Sanders is playing in their bowl game.

I will believe it when i see him on the field. If he by some miracle does its because His dad is the coach and he is a multi millionaire. Little different situation than ours.
OG's family has money and he probably won't play. I think it depends on the player themselves. But sure money plays a part.

I’m going to say this again for you people who keep saying “who we bring in to replace McCord” etc

How do anyone of you know what we have in Jakari?

Everything I’ve heard, is that he is solid.

There’s a reason Fran kept him around and didn’t cut him loose

Logically speaking, you'd be going from a 4th year guy who had started a full year in a pressure cooker to a redshirt freshman who's never seen a snap.

It's not some huge leap of faith to think Fran is going to pitch the McCord story to the best QBs available in the portal.

A chance at 10 games is "just a scrimmage"? Give me a break for crying out loud.
What's so magic about the number 10 if you're not going for it as part of the playoff?

Bowl games I concur dont hold weight like they used to. In any capacity. I dont expect #6 to play in it. But to suggest 10 wins is meaningless if not in cfp completely undermines our collective joy in saturday. With that logic, why would #6 even play the Miami game. Cfp was well off the table then too. It was a 'meaningless' reg season finale

that’s what I’m saying. Where does the magic line get drawn?

A lot of people are pretty free with other people’s money.
And someone can say the same about all of us in regard to their safety and health since this is football. Lighten up.

So a kid risks life and limb playing a dozen regular season
games (many of which are totally meaningless) but can't play
one more?? Why even bother to play out the regular season
once your team isn't in contention for a league title or any
other recognition? I would rather see the whole bowl scenario
canned except for those leading to a national title.

It wasn't meaningless for him; it was his bowl game, and helped cement his credentials for the next level.

If you can't grasp why, there's nothing I can say to help you.

My guess is its probably a 20% chance he plays if that.

Even if we get the gator bowl vs an sec school.

The miami game WAS his bowl game

I never worry too much about these bowl games once the playoffs started. Glorified exhibitions at best and the regular season is what brings in recruits
Depends where he is projected by people who know. If he’s a 3rd day consensus, he should play.

I think the playoff makes bowl games even more insignificant.

So why would you play in an insignificant game that could cost you millions of dollars of earning potential from your career?

Unless the bowls start rev sharing with athletes, this will continue to happen. And the bowls should absolutely be doing that.
I agree with you the playoff has made the bowl games much less significant. Remember though, that once you begin playing football you are taking a big risk. Lots of under 8 kids, middle schoolers and HS kids are injured before getting recruited.

But, football is a Catch-22 situation. You have to play in lots of games to get to the game. And, once you are fortunate to get drafted many more games to get to Super Sunday.

Hypothetical:

I also agree the corporations that run the bowls AND TV should pony up and share the money evenly with every player on both teams.

But, another scenario, what if another NFL ready to be drafted player on the other team gets injured badly or Kyle McCord drops back to pass and gets blindsided by the opposing LT and breaks his ribs, arm, has a concussion or his knee is gone from the hit and his career is over. What the hell difference would the money make? Every player on every team in America who plays football at the P4 level risks serious injury every game.

I think the bowl games should be brought back – Orange, Cotton, Sugar, Rose Bowl - teams decided upon by wins and SOS. Put the best teams, best records together to play. The only reason there are more bowls is because of politics and money and because millions of people want to see the games played.

Huge amounts of, (and I’ll say it again MONEY), is wagered across the world. So what if some kid is injured and can’t play again, look how much I just won. WOW!

In the 1950s they weren't considered real games at all. You basically earned a vacation in a warm climate. The idea that bowl game results mean so much is a newer concept. It used to mean a lot just to get invited.

Sure but I still wanna be top 25 in the offseason. It helps a ton for perception. Especially at end of the year.

Board will change its tune if we get an SEC win in a bowl game. That’d be pretty hype and I bet the “it doesn’t matter” will only apply if we lose.
yeah true, i just think without a good McCord replacement, Syracuse isnt going to get any benefit of the doubt

Obviously Kyle has every right to do what’s best for him, but the thought of anyone else playing QB in our bowl game after he took almost every snap this year minus garbage time vs Holy Cross seems sacrilegious. This is his team.

If ya really watch him throw so quickly, its mostly cause he throws to spots they can only get it. He is throwing the ball no matter how many people are covering him. seen him throw into ttiple coverage a ton of times.

I get this is different, but look at how important that bowl was for Dungey. I’ll never forget his post game presser. Think about that moment being lost due to an opt out. It’s sad. I think these kids take it for granted, just like we all did when we were in college (and I wasn’t playing on a sports team lol). I think Kyle should play for a 10 win season, and then selfishly to break the ACC record for passing yards in a season. That would be legendary stuff. Why opt out when you can live in ACC record books forever, and be a rare player to lead cuse to 10 wins. Cmon Kyle!

Society has devolved into a zero sum game that revolves around money. It's corrosive and terrible. That's why college sports sux for the most part now. It's nothing but a money grab.

I don't get why anyone cares about A) where the bowl is B) what the bowl is C) the game itself if our best player doesn't play to save himself for the NFL draft where he may go in the 5th round.

Personally, I would rather see what Jakari can do. If he plays well the forum will start an early Heisman watch and if he plays poorly he will surely be written off as a bust after 1 game. Can't wait!
