Dino on SportsCenter

So if Sean declares for the draft we should know in early January, right? The big question on my mind is, will he play in our bowl game or not. I sure hope he does and I have a feeling he will.

Probably in early December

I’m going to bet if we go to a non playoff game Sean will likely opt out of the bowl game

And I won’t blame him one bit

I always say Wins & Losses aside I could not be more proud of the man that Represents our program and University. He knocks it out of the park every time he speaks and I'm glad he's ours. Better men, better fathers, better sons, better husbands, etc - that's what matters.

If this becomes a common expectation with players heading to the NFL, then FFS cancel all the bowl games. This only started when we went to a 4-team playoff.

Well they’re going to a 12 team playoff soon

But if I was a top 3 round draft pick pick I also wouldn’t play in a bowl that’s relatively meaningless

However, the extra practices and the media exposure are absolutely critical for programs as well as the payments for playing in the bowl

Have to think of the bowls outside the vision of a fan

Even at 12 teams... how many times would SU have made the cut in the Dome era? 87, 88, 92, 95, 18? so once a decade?

I think he will play in whatever bowl we go to. He’s a team player.

Yeah and we are on the edge this season currently.

If for some crazy reason we pull the upset off at Clemson this weekend we control our own destiny with getting into the CFP this year

I mean, we control our own destiny currently which is wild

But that doesn’t have anything to do with getting rid of bowls

The point of bowls like I said earlier is for teams and fans get a bonus

Not about being a team player it’s about his paycheck in the NFL
I respectfully disagree. When a player sits out on a bowl game they’re letting their teammates and fan base down, the people that got them there. Can it be argued everyone has to protect their finances? Of course, but you can’t have it both ways.

He’ll still be my favorite player either way, but I don’t see how someone can logically say sitting out is anything but not being a team player.

And if his teammates are the ones supporting him going to get paid who are we to judge him. Clearly if that was the case he isn’t letting them down in their own eyes

Notice I said teammates and fans, we are not irrelevant in this situation. So long as there are voices saying players can and possibly even should sit out, their will be voices such as mine saying the exact polar opposite. It is what it is.

if that's the case, maybe you should write him a letter asking him to shut it down right now.

Wow do threads take so many strange turns from the original subject. :p
For real. I was happy Dino/SU got 8 minutes on Sports Center. Even if it aired at Midnight that's a lot of time ... which this team has earned. At the same time, I'm not going to get ahead of Clemson. We need to keep our composure and execute against one of college FB's best teams in one of its most hostile environments, IOW, try less harder.

It never ceases to amaze me about the poor research. The interviewer says it's our first time since 1935 when we were 6-0 which is completely wrong because the graphic on screen says 1987. I 'm sure we were 6-0 in 1959 too. Then, he refers to the 9-3 season that was really 10-3. It's not the interviewer's fault if he was fed the wrong info by researchers. If he did his own prep for the interview, then it's his fault. Sloppy, lazy, clean it up.

I think Orange Bowl or Playoff he does anything else he sits.

A big performance in the ACC Championship game would be a pretty fitting end though.

I get the pumping up the leadership, but just objectively this was going to be a good team. This roster is good, best in a long time.
Yup, beyond the leadership I do wish we could shine a little light on the talent. Everyone anchors on the poor recruiting rankings which obscures the fact we have 6-8 sure fire NFL guys plus a handful of fringe guys that are a bit younger

This list easily out kicks what the recruiting rankings would project

NFL ELITE (Rounds 1-2):
Tuck
Berg
Williams

NFL Solid (Rounds 3-5):
Duce
Jones
Wax
Thompson

NFL Fringe (Need more improvement but have potential)
OG
Caleb
Shrader
Ellis
Several of our ‘Edge’ players that are 6’5 230 ish
