Dino's Game 10 Press Conference | Pitt

Mentions Pitt in Yankee Stadium, 100th anniversary, etc...

“I won’t know the health status of both quarterbacks until later today,” Coach Babers said about Garrett Shrader and Carlos Del-Rio Wilson status for Saturday’s matchup with Pittsburgh

“That comes down to Coach Beck. If the guys need him to be on the field then he’ll be on the sideline,” Coach Babers said about whether his offensive coordinator will be in the booth this weekend.

Clark suspension: No details, in-house issue. Team thought he handled it well. He'll have the opportunity to start again. Suspension is over.

“Don’t judge him by one outing. We have to be able to help him more,” Coach Babers said on Carlos Del-Rio Wilson’s performance on Saturday.

“To me it’s about making plays. It’s about stretching the field. You need to attack the entire field,” Coach Babers said of the Orange’s passing attack and how to correct it.

Babers said Dan Villari is comfortable where he is at at tight end. Babers mentioned that Syracuse has other backup QBs

Hopes Bellamy is available. No updates on Bradford.

“It was one of the most impressive speeches I have ever seen with this football team,” Coach Babers spoke on Dwight Freeney’s speech to the team the night before the Boston College game.

One outing!!!!

One outing!!!!

Ya, coaches pretend like they know so much more than anyone else. Why bother with the facts.

My buddy is a western New York HS football coach. He follows Syracuse, but not closely. He despises Dino. Always tells a story of going to a coaching clinic. Trying to get better, pick up some helpful information from experienced coaches that do this for a living. He always tells this story of going to a clinic with Dino where other high school coaches were asking some questions and Dino kept responding with, well, I can’t really talk about that. He wouldn’t expand on anything and wouldn’t help any of the coaches, which is the entire point of a coaching clinic.

My buddy has been to a couple of these and has said how helpful coaches generally are. Everyone except for Dino who is too paranoid or maybe not smart enough to share any insight for these local high school coaches. It must have been bad because this guy doesn’t say anything bad or negative about anyone. And he just tears Dino apart any time I bring up the Syracuse program. Just a bad look all around. Why even show up if you’re not going to help. Not that we get much local talent from Buffalo area. But why would a coach help you or send players your way if you’re not going to help them out. Wonder if this happens elsewhere or has rubbed any other coaches the wrong way when there player is contemplating Syracuse.

Yeah but I bet your buddy got some great movie references and that’s all that matters.

Assuming Dino isn't fired this week. I don't think you let him hold this press conference unless he's coaching the game this weekend.

Correct. While I'd rather action sooner, I do think the soonest we hear is post Georgia Tech game (assuming they lose the next two). I would be shocked if they do something before then -- the real key is having someone in place shortly after the season ends so we're ready for the portal and that work can take place right now through back channels.

Assuming his contract is through 2024, I find it hard to believe we save much (or anything) by having to wait until the end of the year to fire him. I imagine he's guaranteed the full amount either way. But only a few folks really know the answer to that.

Yup. This is a great point. Remember, Higgins was the replacement for Axe, because Axe was deemed too negative. Higgins has seen enough as well now.
Yea, he's worked for the school in various capacities over the years. Higgins is basically a Matt Park like guy in terms of school loyalty. I overlapped with him a bit during my time on the Hill.

I think he has already been told. Just something about the press conference. He seems to be acting differently. I think he is a lame duck.

If he were already told, I’d think he’d say screw it with the cloak and dagger schtick this morning. He would’ve said “listen, GS is out for the year. So quit askin!”

IMO, He has not been fired yet.

A whole lot of nothing. What a joke.

I had the same reaction. He seems different. I think he knows his fate - whatever that may be. I don’t think we will know until a day or 2 after the season ends.

Even if he wasn't told, he knows. There were enough people behind him chanting Fire Babers (or Fire Dino can't recall) that it was pretty clearly audible on the telecast.
