Dino's Game 2 Press Conference | UConn

Yeah, when I saw him toss the ball, the first thing I thought was penalty.
If they had thrown a flag on it I wouldn't have had a problem with it.

I'm both interested and not surprised to hear Louisville was doing some chicanery that caused some flags on our offensive line. I'm sure that's been reported to the ACC officiating team and they'll be watchful of that going forward. Hopefully that's a trick they got away with one time and that's it.

He could have been flagged for throwing the ball, rather high, into the air. Would fall under excessive celebration, rules state ball should be dropped or handed to an official. Potentially a problem if done in future.
Ref almost flagged him. On replay you see him with it in hand

Imitating snaps or "Disconcerting Signals" is illegal for a defense to engage in...

If that is indeed what was going on, why wasn't it called?

Is it something that's so rarely done that the refs don't look for it?

I can't say I'm surprised it was from L'ville. My opinion of Shatterfield is that he can be classless and petty.
You’d think after the 9th or 10th procedure call they would be looking for it.

My question is, why was the Lville center allowed to turn 90 degrees so he could see the quarterback and then shift back? Why wasn’t that an illegal shift or procedure call?

He threw the ball straight up ala that time when Hakim Warrick through the ball straight up to end the game against ND I think. Warrick forgot to check the clock in that case and did it when there was still 6-7 seconds on the clock.

Yeah he launched that thing about 30ft into the air, lol. Probably should have been a taunting after the play, so not a huge deal. I'm excited to see what McDonald can do

It's not super uncommon, but usually what happens is the coach or team captain points it out to the umpire or referee and they watch for it. Once they get flagged for it, the nonsense generally stops.

They either never complained to the ref or the officials willfully ignoring it.

As long as he doesn't take his hand off the ball and the turn isn't sudden or an enticement to simulate the snap he is allowed to look back at the qb.

I mean, this has to solidify Thompson coming back right? He’s not going to leave early, coming off an injury? I felt like with a good year this year, he’d be gone. Now, we’d only have to replace Mikel.

And Wax.

He’s same class as Tucker.
And also came in as a RB, before shifting to LB.

Given he’s now our 2nd best LB, he could put up a ton of stats this year, and choose to test the draft waters.

I don’t think it was just throwing the ball up in the air but he threw it about 40 feet into the air. I was shocked they didn’t flag him.

Same, I was sure that was a penalty (and should have been)

Mcdonald may actually be good in coverage but losing that pass rush ability from Thompson really sucks.
I actually think McDonald should be pretty darn good at pass rushing. All his HS highlights were DE and TE highlights and he looked really good rushing the passer. I think he will eventually be a good one but my concern for right away is more his experience and ability to read the plays at LB and unsure if his side to side change of direction agility is of Thompson’s caliber. I’m high on his future though.
I was wondering if Mekhi works his way higher up the depth chart now. He looks talented and there is more opportunity there now where using a year of elegability may make more sense. Just wonder if that is part of why he is where he was on the depth chart. But I see he is still not listed as second string so…

Maybe, I don’t regard Wax as high as you do. That’s not a knock, I love the guy, I just didn’t view him as the type to leave early.

Both our players and coaches were complaining about it during the game. Unfortunately, it had no effect on the refs or Louisville. So to your point, I believe the refs were just ignoring it.

by the rules it was a penalty even though the rule is very blah. Let the kids celebrate scoring a touchdown. As long as its not in the face of an opponent i have no issue

anyone know any good streaming platforms that have CBSSN that offer free trials ?

Except he didn’t turn back to the QB. At least twice he set up at a 90 degree angle. Then shifted seconds later.

I’ve always found it odd that the offense can do what it wants regarding hard counts and signal calling to draw the defense offsides, but the defense can’t do the same.

The Louisville game is being replayed again right now and I just watched saw Gadsden’s TD.
He threw the ball straight up into the air. It didn’t seem terribly disrespectful by most standards but Dino seems to have a different code than a lot of other coaches.
A different code? What coach wants their team getting penalized?
