Dino's Game 8 Press Conference for Va Tech: 11 AM

Syracuse HC Dino Babers said he spoke with QB Tommy DeVito yesterday. TD was “very mature” about the expressing his decision and reasoning. “We’re tied at the hip. I love that guy. He’s part of the family. … We wish him nothing but the best.”

More Dino Babers on DeVito: “He knows that I’m always rooting for him and I hope he gets everything he’s looking for because he deserves it.”

Babers admitted it’s hard to not be able to see the vision he had with DeVito to fruition. Reiterates that he’ll do everything he can to help DeVito as a reference. When asked if he believes TD can succeed at another school, Babers declined to answer publicly.

Great question by @Roshan_f16. Babers said he has someone on staff to help with in-game decision making. Declines to name the person. It’s also unclear if they have any other responsibilities.

Babers said second-year freshman JaCobian Morgan is the backup quarterback, but the staff is still evaluating the room

Babers said the staffer who handles decision-making analytics does not have other gameday responsibilities. The staffer is passing along percentages in-game, Babers said. DB puts stock in those numbers, but wouldn’t say how often he goes with them vs. a contrary gut decision.

Fascinating timing of this answer considering Millhouse just admitted to not having as much time to post anymore.
Whoever it is needs to relieved of his/her/their responsibilities before the end of the press conference.

Classy response.

Makes DeVito's omission to thank the coaching staff on his way out the door even stranger.

I don't think Dino is trying to signal that TD isn't going to be a good QB at his next school but this looks weird. Why can't he just give some generic response of support?

maybe they should buy the guy a calculator

TD is all class but he’s young and human. He probably feels hurt that he lost QB1. Dino is twice his age so it only makes sense that his comments would be the most mature out of the two. Also Dino has no reason to be hurt, but TD arguably does. I say that as someone in GS camp.

Dino doesn't seem to put much stock in analytics. He won't even name the person who provides this data.
God forbid he commits to talking about using analytics and how it could support his decision making process.

Eh, or Dino realizes that mistakes made should be attributed to him. Why name someone else when what they are doing isn’t working. Captain goes down with the ship.
That’s a very charitable assessment, but Dino didn’t say as much. He could have, but did not.

How is anything supposed to get better this way?

I thought they've been hiding something in the injury tent all year

I am thinking a data analytics guy. However, is going for it on 4&1 and making it less likely than kicking a 48 years FG?

Eh. I think folks are reading way too much into this. Wouldn’t be surpised if it’s a GA who provides things like TOs, down and distance etc.

JB does the same for player fouls and Time outs for both teams.

They provide the info to the coach, the coach decides what to do with it.

Dino didn’t want to hang that staffer out to dry.
