Dino's Signing Day Presser 1 PM

Honestly, what is there to say? “He’s a good player. We can’t wait for him to get here. Just had moments that make you say wow.”
Honestly, what can you say about the portal - which is still open by the way? “Yes we’re definitely planning to mine the portal to help fill out the class. “

The media at the press conference didn’t want to address the value of the commitments and players, we did get. The players and recruiters deserved better.

Dino is great at answering open ended questions like 'what was it about Player A that made him stand out' and make the staff offer him?

Every other P5 team in the country has this presser and I wager that at every other P5 presser, the HC is asked about each signee individually, and the HC provides some behind the scenes details and insights that the fans really long for and enjoy.

This is what we used to have when we had a good press core covering the team.

This is what we should expect from this presser and should get. Now that opportunity has passed and we essentially get nothing.

Just my opinion. I could be wrong.
Unfortunately, when you close off the majority of access to the program throughout the year, the reporters use this time to ask questions they know are going to get more clicks on their sites. Not saying it's the right thing to do, but they know what drives traffic on their websites.

Oh my goodness ...you guys again and again on the new OC. If Dino takes his time getting him, so what? If he's the right guy, you won't care that he was hired in January, February, or July

And I bet we find someone much better than you Debbie Downers think. Go get a drink, or a laxative
After the 2021 season I need to take an anti depressant, but you are probably right, we should really stop complaining so much. Let’s try to be more positive.

There are a bunch of questions that could be asked from the recruitniks. Where are some of the guys projected. CB/S/Rover/LB/DE/DT etc. Brown seems like an unrecruited kid, what does he bring to the table that your staff liked. Did you have to 'hang' onto guys. What big schools came in late trying to poach what kids. Talk about the flips. He might give grey answers to some of the questions but at least ask them. At the end of the day, recruiting fans want to know who are you beating for these signatures.

Here's a good Q...did the lack of an OC/QB and WR coach impact recruiting coming down the stretch. And when he says no not really, challenge it with some data.

I'm with sutomcat 100%, our media coverage is terrible, they don't know their audience and the questions are rather elementary.

I just watched the press conference and it was obvious that Dino was a little irritated. He hears all the negative talk about recruiting, but the media seems to forget all those low level recruits that end up being all Americans and then get drafted into the NFL. I learned nothing about any of the new recruits because the media forgot what the press conference was for. It was embarrassing listening to some of the same old questions about the portal. How about how they flipped the kid from Northwestern and the transfer from Louisville. Maybe a feeling about the defensive end from Albany. He might not be able to say much, but body language can tell us a lot. Brent Axe is so quick to give his opinion on every part of the program, but can’t ask a single question about the true reason for the press conference. Pretty sad.

Looks like a bunch of posts were deleted out of this thread. Quick comment on the OC and the references to the lame duck status. HCDB is not wrong in that they need to get it right so you can understand some of the slow play. We just hope we're on choice 1-3 rather than 6-8. You can mitigate the lame duck status to some degree as long as the AD steps up with a good contract. If they go with a 2 year contract at the market rate it's going to be hard for someone to turn down a couple of million guaranteed. And if your Syracuse you're just going to have to take that gamble that you might be throwing it away. I don't see any other way if you want to have any chance whatsoever. Spend money to make money.

There was only one post deleted and then one that responded to it.

i look at the numbers of the kids we got and the we have a pretty decent level of 10+ kids ,, the question is will we fill out the rest with the kids that are lower or fill it in at the same level.. the Lou kid would be our highest rated kid but he doesnt count. Until we see the punter who knows how that turns our.. just going by 24x7 the kids so far are all better than our bottom 10+ from last year if we find 5-7 more at that level and then 5+ transfers that would be a better class but not ranked very good.

With the win or go home pressure put on by the AD I can understand the press and fans are more interested in the portal as typically those players are going to play right away and have a direct impact on if DINO stays or is fired next year. The same could be said about the upcoming coaching hires. Dino is big on keeping things a secret so this is the first chance the press has to ask him about all that of course that is going to be their focus. That should be the focus over some freshman who may or may not play and who may or may not be here if Dino is fired after next season.

Criticism of the presser?
General criticism of the current class, general recruiting, the portal situation, depth etc.

I'm sure there are plenty more Gilberts out there ripe for taking.

With the expectation that we would sign 10 players today and at the end of the day we signed 14 new players means we got 40% more than expected. I’m happy. And it’s obvious Dino is going to work all channels to get the numbers we need.

The sooner we get an OC, the sooner he can start implementing his scheme with our players. That would seem to be something we’d want to do, given the raging fire Dino is sitting on these days.

Or we can get someone in July and hear how going 4-8 isn’t so bad when you consider we couldn’t possibly get our O in place.

Babers on recruiting punter Max Von Marburg: “We informed our scholarship punter we were going to recruit another one. We went through our process.” Says they’re comfortable with what they’ve seen on video to offer him a scholarship.

Babers: “We went after certain positions and we have breathing room to add guys in the late period.”

Babers says they’re “halfway done” with this cycle. Going to be an eventful late period.

Babers: “we’ve got something extremely a special. The education here is no joke.”

Dino on Sean Tucker: “Yeah, Sean’s going to be back here.”

Babers on the OC search: “We want someone who can score points.” Said it’s a process they don’t want to rush because they need to make sure they get the right person.

Babers on how many will come from the portal versus high school: “It’s a very fluid situation.”

Dino says Bob Ligashesky is a fantastic coach. Excited about his ability to help improve special teams
I’m confident he can identify the correct candidate for the oc job he has realized the correct moves made going with something new on defense and the errors he’s made going with something more comfortable and familiar on offense then effective with his roster.

Agree.

I agree Dino would agree as well. He looked irritated at the lack of interest in the new recruits. Unfortunately, our 'journos' as a whole anyway, appear to have little or no interest in recruiting,

What a shame. It would have been a far more interesting and worthwhile presser if fans could have asked the questions. We would have gotten a lot more information.

Another major failure for the crew assigned to cover Syracuse football.
I wish he’d have a talk on a podcast like say cuse militia I think that would be a fun conversation to listen to with a couple of fans mediating the q&a

This is a bad look / answer no way around it.

Shouldn't be hard to find time to visit CBA during the season.

When SU used to host the Upstate/Downstate All-Star Game in the Dome, neither Marrone nor the coaching staff were permitted to attend per NCAA rules.

Not sure what NCAA rules are concerning State playoff games.
