Dino's Week 6 Pitt Press Conference

With a small group as exceptions, including some on this board, the locals are all we have now. That’s the base fan base. Out of town fans including alumni is for the most part non existent now.

Yes, which led to 3 and outs, and perhaps a tired D at the end of the game?

That's the negative to the style of play. If there is poor execution offensively, it wears out your D.

If my memory serves me right, we had a chance to run some clock down in the 4th Q and we had a 3 and out that took less than 50 seconds off the clock, if that. That was a key play to me. In a game you are marginally up, it's just as much meathead football to give the ball back to the trailing team with a ton of time left.

if they come in 5-1 and theres not 45k for UNC, and if/when he leaves after some success, then we'll all look back as this was the day he decided he's outta here. If they do come in 5-1 I'm buying extra tix and giving them away.
Yes, his comments concern me.

I agree. I was thinking of buyin

I agree! Time to think what can WE do to fill the dome. Should everyone on the board bring 2-4 "extra people" and god forbid buy them tickets. I did it for my sister last year and she bought season tix this year. Let's do our part to keep dino.

Open to other creative ideas

Maybe they could give season ticket holders get 50% off a pair of extra tickets?

That and allowing them to March right down the field to get it to 23-20 in less than a minute and a half.

Those two possessions were critical

Not so subtle call out to the fans: “Hey - we’re doing our part, now you have to step up and get to the Dome”.

Not anybody on this board, but all those people (and I know everyone has encountered this) who would say “they suck im not wasting my time” no longer have an excuse.

Low 40’s would be fantastic for UNC, win that , mid 40’s for NCST, an fun then when we are 8-1, upper 40’s for Lville on a Friday night in November when all the leaves are gone and the apples are picked.

they need to lower capacity quickly and not tell dino. put some fake luxury boxes with dummies in the upperdeck corners

Just order a whole bunch of these.

same kid who will now start, Bolinsky. he started warming up on the sideline right after Keller went down.

BTW, I still can't believe that cheap shot on Keller wasn't a PF. Kid went out of his way to turn around and hammer him. Thinking about disrupting a last second Cuse FG there Clemson ?
The kid who cheap shotted Keller was called for a personal foul. That was why they started at their 6 yard line.

Promotion is good now, but if we beat Pitt and end up ranked, then overload it. Hype the ranking. Two weeks until UNC. Provide a 3 game package for the remaining games with discounts to the premium seats.

Just get them in the door.
I agree totally...but someone has got to be proactive at the university!!!

I would be very surprised if the dome wasn't pretty full if we are 5 - 1. If we are 4 - 2, I could definitely see the numbers drop a lot. Shows the fickleness of bandwagon fans.

As has been said, the University has two weeks to get the place rocking. We don't know what the outcome of the Pitt game will definitely be but the University can start laying the groundwork now and then really hype the 5 - 1 start after Pitt.

How many more times can the poor man beg the locals to give crap?

I just hope this is a case of Dino trying to motivate and not some warning that he'll catch the first flight outta here if the dome isn't filled soon enough.

He's a smart guy. Surely he understands that 17 years of futility isn't erased overnight? When it's been that long for a private northeast school, attendance is going to be a lagging indicator. We're close, man. The attendance will respond significantly if we can beat Pitt.

Maybe someone needs to show him some VHS youtube tapes of the dome back in the 90s. Filling the dome is not reinventing the wheel. It's pretty deterministic -- someone needs to tell Babes to be patient.

Your post is spot on, however, Dino's message is unfortunately preaching to the choir and not the fan that maybe on the fence. 95% of the people watching his weekly PC's are diehards who already have tickets or support the program from afar. The people who used the excuse as you noted of "they suck I'am not wasting my time" are just going to come up with a new excuse. Tickets are to much, there's no parking, game time doesn't work for me, I have other plans, or I can just watch it on TV.

Its going to be a struggle for SU to get over 40K without giving away or pretty much giving away a chunk of tickets. The demand is simply isn't there outside of the diehards and a small % of fans that have remained on the fence. As others have pointed out there's a sizeable chunk of people who casually follow the program who aren't coming to the Dome regardless of what happens this year even if SU had won last week. I know attendance is high on Babers list and I respect that but if he thinks that is getting fixed in one year he's going to be massively disappointed. I have noticed an uptick in people asking about the program and showing more interest then they have in quite some time but I don't think non locals realize how far a bridge there is to cross to get that to translate to actual buts in seats.

Unfortunately I don't think a lot of people understand that. I also don't think they understand that there's another % of locals that simply aren't coming to the Dome regardless of what Dino says or what the record is. Some of those fans will take multiple seasons to get back in the Dome at least and some of those fans are just the casual fan who aren't coming to the Dome until SU basically becomes Clemson which isn't happening.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Babers asked the fans to have faith... Now, I'm asking that he have faith, belief without evidence, that attendance will get better. We are so close.

I do think that a strong season that ends with a 7-5 or 8-4 record can really lay the groundwork for a potentially big uptick for next year especially when the schedule looks like its conducive for another good start. Clearly we would need him to come back though and if he's looking for it this year he's likely to be disappointed save for perhaps Lville.

This makes sense. Completely do-able too.

I thought they called holding not a PF.

Update: I checked and it was a hold:

"Keller was injured when safety K'Von Wallace grabbed a hold and threw him to the ground during a punt with just more than 6 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter at Clemson.

Wallace was flagged for a holding penalty on the play."

We do seem to have students on board now, which is good.

Alum problem is tricky for us. So many don't end up living that close. And I forget what it must have been like to be a student during all these bad years. Probably like being a Kansas football fan, when does hoops start. My 2nd Dome game as a freshman started out with Dar Dar on a reverse running past a stunned Steve Spurrier in front of 49,500 fans who nearly blew the roof off the place. A team that stayed ranked all year. It was easy to get hooked.

On the flip side, many of the big schools that rely on alums are also drawing 30-50k more when you compare full stadium to full stadium.

I'm not pointing fingers, but I do think all around CNY, combined with students, we should be able to get 45k in there. We're not that far off.

Every alum knows an alum that doesn't seem to care. And I'd bet every local knows a local that doesn't seem to care (I know plenty of both). Locals are lower hanging fruit to draw back in. Alums are a longer play.
