Dino's Week 7 Press Conference for NC State

Sheesh, Dino not in a playful mood this week at all. Hope that doesn't mean what I think it means in terms of this weeks game.
I was thinking the exact same thing. This season to date has been one of many frustrations for Syracuse University Football Coaches, Players and Fans. Lets all hope this Thursday night begins the turn towards the positive. Go Orange!!!!!!!

This is gonna be like basketball where the unknown comes in and torches us for a career high.
Leary is a known unknown. We recruited him pretty hard and we were considered a semi favorite to land him according to the mythical crystal ball

I would hate to see us get torched twice by this kid

He was quite obviously angry about Mark Larson questioning him (twice) about why Devito didnt come out earlier than he did.
Well I am a Dino fan but that was stupid at 42-3 our qb should not be in there. It’s wrong and he is pissed that someone called him out on it. Get over it coach and don’t do stupid things so they don’t have to ask stupid questions.

if you’re a Power 5 coach that worries your QB might get hurt in 1 or 2 extra series against Holy Cross, you’re probably in the wrong line of work.

Don't have a problem with him being "defiant". Anyone who's watched SU knows the first team needs as much work as it can get. I had no issue with him being out there. Said it during the game, after and will double down on it now.
Dino made a mistake. Kid should have been out at the end of the third. What the heck was he going to gain playing against HC 2nd team kids? Stupid period.

I dont blame him for playing Devito. Needs more reps with the offense, maybe there would have been a play in there that wouldve helped things click. This is diferent from Shafer leaving in Dungey. And if things were clickin on all cylinders I would feel differently regarding Devito. But, things are sloppy right now, and sometimes the only way to get out of that is to get live reps. Stuff happens, its unfortunate but Dino is not wrong

Don't like how Dino handled Mark Larsons questions here ...repeatedly saying, "I don't understand your question." He understood the question. He's pissed that someone's asking it.

Mark Larson asked the question in the most benevolent way it could be phrased. And it's the media's job to question coaching decisions. If he can't handle a question like this, he better not go to USC. Dino didn't handle himself well here. Could have been much much better.

I'm thinking things behind the scenes aren't so rosy right now. Hate to say it. But that's the vibe I get

He’s earned a few bad moments in front of the media ... he’s given them a lot of good since coming to town. Not one podium smashed

Dino looked as if he'd just been informed that those playeras will be unlikely to play this week. That would put anyone in a bad mood.

I felt Larson's pressing him on the issue of keeping DeVito in more than a week later after we've learned that Tommy will play in the next game was kind of beating a dead horse- Dino had already answered that question after the game. Asking the same question twice was unwise. Larson's response seemed a bit petulant.

That said that, it's a no-brainer to take your starter out when it's 41-3 in the fourth quarter for precisely this reason. DeVito isn't going to improve because he got in a couple of extra plays against Holy Cross when the game was long over. But his back-ups need reps precisely because he might get hurt. This was a game to play back-ups and rest starters. it's too bad we didn't blow it completely open earlier but we had done it by this point in the game and Clayton Welch should clearly have been in there after our last score.

Any year with a really good backup and maybe your right. This year and with him starting to come around he shouldn’t have been in. No way no how. He also knows he shouldn’t have been in and that’s why he is pissed about the question.

so stupid that dozens of other teams in that same spot had their #1 in the game that day
I get what your saying but what is the point in having him in there. Are we improving our team. No. Could we get valuable backup minutes in case he ever gets hurt. Yeah. As a coach u pull your guy period. We aren’t getting anything more after that. Makes 0 sense to me at all.

Anyone can get hurt in any play. You don’t pull people who need the reps. You cannot coach scared. Everyone needs to get over Dungey, the good and the bad. Tommy hasn’t had three concussions. He isn’t one hard hit from being DQ anymore than any other player. The passing game still needs work. Live reps, even against HC are important for the offense.

He was playing against 2nd team HC guys. All he talks about is depth. Well perfect time to improve it. If we need our first team qb to get reps in a game like that we are in deep trouble rest of the way. I normally am not so adamant about something but that was dumb period. I agree u don’t play scared and we did the first two games cause Dino didn’t let Td run at all. Even Clemson we restricted him. When ur in there u play and use all your abilities. Kid is fast. Use it. But when it’s time to come out in a blowout, U come out. As someone I know would say, great time to work the underbelly of the squad.

I agree. Think Dino showed some thin skin and frankly hasn't earned the free pass yet. IF he ever rmoves on the questions are going to be much worse than a grilling from Mark Larson.

How can anybody watching that game not say that Tommy and the rest need more work together to figure things out before the next part of the schedule? If things were clicking and the offense was rolling...then yes...make him the boy in the plastic bubble. But that wasn’t the case and these “ Dino made a mistake” are just dumb takes.

I'm trying to remember the last time he was "snooty" with a reported in the last 4 years. He's entitled to bad day every once in while. Just like the media.

I think Dino wanted to have one more series that was executed perfectly to end Tommy’s day and end on a high note for the offense.

Now there’s two ways of looking at that situation. One being the conservative view saying tommy shouldn’t of entered the game past quarter 3. The other is that this offense is not clicking at all the way it should and Dino wants every rep possible for his offense to grow. If devito never got hurt we would be saying that it was a good thing for the offense to get as much reps against other opponents.

Now for the harsh treatment (harsh in terms of Dino treatment - it wasn’t a big deal) but, it came down to if Dino could redo it there’s NO WAY he keeps Tommy in there and he knows he is getting called out for it. But, at that point it’s been asked many times (post game HC included) and tommy is good to go for Thursday so it’s annoying as a HC to deal with someone from the media who doesn’t truly understand his job, asking the same question over and over. Likewise, it is the media’s job though. This is what you sign up for when being a HC.

Ps this had to be the first time I’ve ever noticed coach blatantly not “feeling” the media press conference.

Just win damnit.

i can’t wait until Larson has to ask the question again.

“I bet you won’t call me Chrissy again”
