Dino's Week 8 BC Press Conference

Syracuse coach Dino Babers addressing the media now. Said there's always a "big, warm, fuzzy feeling" after a win like VT.

DB: BC has sixth ranked defense in country. Hilliman is one of the biggest running backs we'll face.

Dino: kumbaya meetings were private meetings. Noticed something was amiss that needed to have a light shined on it

Dino Babers said info from "Kumbaya meetings" will stay internal. Format included the entire team.

Dino: doesn't really like public speaking, but was in leadership positions throughout life.

Babers: That's probably the only glimpse you're going to get in the locker room. I don't like sharing family things.

Babers: I knew there was a a camera in there, but I forgot. You better hit save, you might be holding onto that for a while.

Dino: Ellison was Defensive player of game. No. 19 is amazing. He's got the biggest heart in the room.

Syracuse HC Dino Babers said SS Daivon Ellison was the defense's player of the game against VT. Other honors: Dungey (offense), Morris (ST).

Babers: Daivon Ellison is amazing. He throws his body around the field selflessly. When someone plays like that you can't help but root.

Dino: I apologized to the defense after Wake Forest game. It did more than enough to win that football game.

Dino: all we've proved so far is that we're occasionally great. It bothers me we're not consistently good.

Dino: this win lets everyone know we can get there. Now you have to decide what side you want to be on.

Those are the two biggest quotes of the presser, first one directed at players 2nd at everyone and he's right. I remember laying an egg at Louisville in 2011 after we beat WVU that Friday night, great one week bad the next.

Smart man, 2012 last 5 games- consistently very good. That is the goal

He has said that 'occasionally great, consistently good' quote since day one. I wrote it down months ago and use it for my youth lacrosse players. I love it.

I always think "How about consistently good AND occasionally great?"

I like it a lot though. Makes so much sense and gives a glimpse into his teaching style. Today, he shared some more about that "acing the test before adding more questions" - this may be his secret sauce.

Add:

Let's the team know NOT to get a big head about a win, still have to play the games.

Let's the team and fans know they are improving but not yet "there".

Reminds the team and fans of what HCDB's standard is: Consistently good or better. (too many variables to hold to consistently great, HCDB keeps a realistic standard, especially since Syracuse does not pay players - SEC)

I have a feeling there is very little that Dino forgets.
Yes, but look at the video again. He looks over at the SID, and it makes me wonder if they were supposed to keep cameras out of the locker room.

Very little gets past him, he knew exactly what he was doing.
Though probably true, HCDB is not one to point fingers needlessly. If this was an honest mistake, "I forgot" is much easier on everyone than pointing fingers.

Alternatively, HCDB may have wanted this one segment to leak. I am inclined to think the former.

You do that once, and you let it get out to the media, then you'll become a YouTube sensation and people will remember it. If you do it too much more than that, people will think it's a gimmick and it gets old quickly. Paul Rhoads was another coach that had a great moment like that -- hopefully Dino is better at capitalizing on his moment.

At the beginning of one of the versions of the video i saw, i thought he said something like, "This better not end up on social media."

Yup. First time I saw it live after the game, that's what he said. ESPN and others then did the splice job that went viral.
