Had any of you heard that Dixon was a name in the USC job? It just came up in the telecast of the PITT game. I'm suprised although rather see him there than Hop.

it has been the buzz in LA for over a week . . . heard on the radio less than an hour ago that it is basically a done deal

Happening right after the "done deal" of Oklahoma to the Big Ten.

BCS programs dont hire untested 1st time coaches.

but id be surprised hes leaving the ACC for the pac...

Oh Lord

I heard also that they have come to an agreement. Heard it about a week ago. Maybe it will be announced now.

If Pitt was smart they would hire Orlando Antigua as head coach. Give him the reins to bring in the recruits and see if he can coach. I wouldn't bring in Howland because the issues he has at UCLA would not be good to bring to Pitt. There are also people saying that he got this last group because of back door deals.

Oh Lord

Are you kidding?

USC is an incredible job if he wins.

First Howland, now Dixon.

Is Pittsburgh weather so bad that the coaches run to So Cal?

Though something tells me that Pitt's lack of big recruiting wins during a up period could be traced back to practice/dorm space not being up to Top-10 standards.

That might lead a coach to look for a school with more cash for facilities.

Just a guess.

Details of the USC offer were leaked last week. Dixon has a 10 year $2.5 million offer on the table from USC. The question is...is Dixon using that to leverage Pitt for more $. I would have a hard time believing that anyone other than Dixon and his agent has a reason to release the offer details. Smells like a leverage play by Dixon to me...but who knows...

Perhaps his players knew about it, and that's why they laid an egg today.

Howland and Dixon are LA guys.

It has been known for a little over a week. He is from the west and wife is a USC grad. So may not be just money or facilities may want to go to west coast for personal reasons as well.

Roy Williams at Kansas. Tom Izzo at MSU. Matt doherty at N.D.. The list goes on.

This is old news. We had rather lengthy discussions about it on this board in recent days/weeks. I'm sort of shocked people are being caught off guard by this "news." Primarily because it is the ultimate win-win for us. We keep Hop and Pittz loses the comic book villian.

I think it has more to do with always being an afterthought in Pittsburgh. With the Pens, Steelers and Pirates, no one really gives a crap about the University.

I just think that Pitt is so unlikeable that even their own people don't want anything to do with the place. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Even the uniforms: USC's Ronald McDonald outfits are some of the worst in sports, but even they are better than Pitt's Pee-Trough Specials.
