Class of 2017 DL Lorenzo Hernandez (NJ) Transferring from Monmouth to WKU

Uh, we went to a 3-3-5, specifically because you don’t need 300 pounders on the DL to run it well.

Because we’ve never been able to get those big DL dudes on the regular.

You are making up for lack of size, with speed, misdirection, and chaos - the rush could come from anywhere.
This, I wish we could pin this for all discussions involving the DL. The 3-3-5 is all about speed, chaos, and misdirection pre-snap. You make up for size with quickness and a competent rotation deep enough to keep your line fresh through 4th Quarter.

You're looking for serious athletes, regardless of size, who can either play situationally (think the true frosh as EDGE rushers on 3rd and medium to long) and players that have the size and speed to play all three spots. Most 3-3-5 DLs are going to be running 8-9 deep most games.

The true freshmen and Hernandez (if he comes) will be big contributors on that rotation next year. This is exactly the type of one year flyer we need to be taking; mature body with a lot of game experience to help anchor a young unit.

All of the sudden?

Men’s soccer has been ranked Top 50 perennially pretty much. Women’s soccer is pretty good within their league. Baseball has some MLB players and is always in the mix among top Northeast programs. MBB was a borderline at-large team about 4-5 years ago.
All true. NJ has always been nationally strong in soccer. I was always curious to know why SU seemed to avoid recruiting here. Perhaps they just didn't think they'd land the talent?

Green Bay packers.

We need some size in the middle of the defense

May be an opportunity for him to start there. That was far from guaranteed here.
He has waited a long time to play. Bouncing from planning on playing at Nova to ASA to Monmouth, where they didn’t play at all in the fall and had a mini season in the spring.

Last year was his one real year of 4 year ball and it was at Monmouth. Only has one year left. Yes, think you are right. He really wanted to start and be a difference maker and WKU was able to offer that.

Good for him. I don’t blame anyone for trying to find a place where they will definitely start.
