I love it. But people need to start paying better attention to the beat of the claps. No wonder people say that white guys have no rhythm.

SU has almost no traditions. Don’t you dare suggest taking away one of the very few we have.
I understand this take.

But the stand and clap until first basket BLOWS and is completely backwards. It makes things awkward for our team. We should do stuff that pressures the opponent.

It was best when they played the 90s Jock Jams song “Y’all ready for this” just prior to tipoff when everyone was standing and clapping. That always got me fired up.

You could actually clap to that.

Back in the old days, after the starting lineups were introduced, Sour Sitrus would play "Land of 1000 Dances", and everyone would clap along with that.

My biggest per peeve: For ages the first song Sour Sitrus would play was always "Main Squeeze" by Chuck Mangione.

For some unknown reason, they discontinued it a few years ago. And we haven't made the tournament since.

Coincidence?

I like it, I just think it's backwards. It puts pressure on the team when it starts to go on forever. It should be until the other team scores - put the pressure on them, something for the defense to feed off right from the tip.

I'm fine with the tradition, though as there seemingly aren't any otherwise lol

This was Sitrus pre-game, circa 1994. The hands are mine, I was one of 2 conductors that year.

It's the worst when the seats are half empty and it's been 3 minutes since the tip without a basket. This one can go away ... besides they stole it from were inspired by New Mexico. 50 years is a good run. Should probably just play Seven Nation Army like everyone else.

We should be cheering until the other team scores a basket. That would be a great tradition that actually makes sense.

Fans would really get into it as it moved on possession to possession. The Syracse layers would get energy from it, and the pressure creeps on the the other team. Fans getting more excited and our playing getting more energy instead of pressure. What a concept!

The creator of this tradition and their immediate family, including any grandchildren, should be banned from the Dome for life, banned from Syracuse university for life, and perhaps even banned from the city of Syracuse for life.

i was always the anti-waver in the crowd . i'd stand up until the tsunami swept into my section and then sit . counter-culture is after all a chosen life style. either you are all in or you have line danced. (sober that is).

How about when we get a new coach (or should I say if), there becomes a push to put a "spin" on the tradition.

Not ignoring the stand and clap thing, but change it around until the other team scores. Pays homage to the past, but signifies we are creating a new legacy as well.

Get a few influential to push for it and make people aware of it, and within a month its happening.

This is asking if you personally like doing it when you're at the game.
What we should do is stand and clap until the OPPONENT makes their first basket. Put the pressure on THEM. Fire up OUR guys on defense.

But, no, we had to take the 75 IQ, third-grade approach.
