Do you remember when Syracuse won the national championship?

7th grade. Watched the game with our tailgate group at the Marriott. Went out to Marshall street at the buzzer. Still remember someone swinging around fire in the middle of Marshall street celebrating. Everything greased up. It was a wild scene. One of the few times my parents let me skip school the next day. What a night. Remember where I was during every moment of that entire tournament.

I don't remember where I was but probably in the basement of my townhouse condo in Arlington, VA and all I could think about during the game and especially near the end was how the 1987 Championship game ended and how ticked off I was and wouldn't talk to anyone for 3 days. I was so obsessed with the pain of that game that when I was in Indianapolis for the 2000 Final Four (my firm had bought packages so we could take clients) that on that Sunday we visited a Field of Dreams store that had an autographed picture of the final shot of the '87 game. I stared at it. And the next day went back and bought it. Why you might ask? Because the photo was taken from the far right corner of the court behind the shooter (a person whose name I shall not use), opposite from the TV cameras, and all 5 Syracuse players are in the picture. [Sorry to bring up such a bad memory.]

I’m a pro law enforcement person but the Syracuse
Police “riot cops” stationed on Marshall Street were just the biggest dorks on Earth. There was absolutely no rioting. The worst thing that happened was a couple kids climbed lamp posts. After seeing this, the officers barreled through the crowd shoving people aside to get to them as if it was South Central in 1992 in their heads.

I still regret not driving to New Orleans.

I watch a replay of the 2003 Oklahoma vs Syracuse game this afternoon, maybe Red should watch a few of these games. What a difference from how SU plays now!

I was at that game. Good times.

The ticket scrambles -
Scalped outside the Garden in NY
Same in Boston
Albany tickets were crazy. Myself and other SU fans buying tickets via phone from opposing team box athletic departments (Auburn?) might be my favorite part of the whole month.

Drinking the Marriott Hotel dry Saturday night - well into Sunday Morning - after the Texas win.
Watching a Texas fan absolutely lose his mind leaving the Superdome after Celebrating Syracuse fans were chanting “where’s TJ Ford?”

Final game seats about 15 rows up from where Hakim’s block landed.

The list of memories is endless..

What a year. Both SU and my beloved Red Sox won it all. No sporting event or year will ever beat this for me

The 2003 World Series was between the Yankees and the Marlins. The Yankees beat the Red Sox in the playoffs in the Aaron Boone home run game

It was my senior year up at SU. Kueth was my partner for a project in a political science elective, so those few weeks at the end of the season were a lot of fun as a fan and as a student in classes with these guys. I watched the game in the Dome with a bunch of friends and then went down to Marshall St. to party for the rest of the night. Skipped class the next morning and it was totally worth it.

Freshman year on the hill as we took the watch party madness down to van buren riding couches down the road then quickly to Marshall street…

Was at the dome watching this game on the big screens that they brought in and put on the football field. All the concessions were $1. It was packed and it was amazing. Great idea by SU at the time

I was on an airplane from Dallas to St. Louis. I had planned to watch the second half of after I landed but my flight was delayed so I watched the first half in DFW. On the flight no internet or TV ( it was 2003) but i occasionally was able to get scores on my blackberry. The pilot announced the final and congratulated the guy in the orange sweatshirt.

I got to see the Auburn game in person. I was amazed at the sea of orange on South Pearl St in Albany. That was definitely a home game for SU! The whole evening was crazy with maniacal Orange fans.
After watching the '87 and '96 finals with friends, I decided that I needed to watch the '03 game alone. Im sure my superstitious change in viewing plans is what helped them win.

Was at the Dome watching as well for the Championship, my friends & tried to sit in the exact same seats we did for the Final Four viewing/win. An overall great experience for us who weren’t able to make it to New Orleans. Marshall St. afterwards… was told in class the next day I had made it on some local news footage (never saw it myself). What a moment in time, absolutely euphoric for someone like me who grew up 5 minutes from campus & went to SU as a student

I was in 3rd grade, and that whole season really lit my fire for fandom. I remember going to the dome to watch the final 4 game, but was at home with family for the championship game. I know there’s a whole generation of cuse fans around my age that had a similar experience. I do wish we would’ve managed to win another one, but I am glad my grandparents got to see them win it all before they kicked the bucket. They were STH for like 50 years.

Ice storm weekend. Went to the dome to watch the final four because my cable was out (had a generator, so I had power). Cable was back Monday, but the atmosphere at the dome was so good my friend and I went back for the championship game. We got there early and had great seats down low right in front of the middle TV. It was snowing lightly after the game when everyone was celebrating on Marshall St.

That was a hell of a fun time celebrating with you after the games JarHead.

I remember you pulled a legendary "walk-off" at about 5:30 AM. I remember you, me, and Jake stopping into (let's call it 'one last') bar after getting slices of pizza, then turning around and you were gone.

I think we were talking about it for about a week after. "What happened to JarHead"?

That was peak boy band era. I dyed my hair orange after the win. It was the spring before I was on the hill as a freshman and watched with my family. I went to the Oklahoma game in Albany and I am pretty sure they had less fans there than UNC will have at the dome on Saturday.
