No question he has the build, speed and skills...

Obviously his development has been stunted due to injury.

That said, if he stays healthy, will he put it all together this year?

He's shown flashes and domination ( W. Michigan) but also seems to lack focus and tactical smarts a good part of the time. Plus, the fact Babers and crew have been lukewarm on his capabilities and were genuinely shocked by his game 1 performance makes me think they see him as inconsistent at best... And if he drops a pass, Dungey and the play calling drop him in the read progression it seems. Trust doesn't seem to be there...

Anyways, he's an odd one...

Would love to see him breakout with some positive impact and consistency... The offense could really use someone who can step up and replace ishmael in a competent fashion.

No idea if he will or can fill that role consistently...

Yeah, he is a physically-gifted, skill-wise flawed receiver. He's better than what I thought he would be entering the season, worse than he looked like he might be after Western Michigan.

He's not a number one at the Power 5 level. He doesn't consistently get it done and he disappears for stretches, but his physical skills will occasionally allow him to do something great. That's what he is.

He’s got everything but hands.

Yeah, but even so, he has hands sometimes... That over the shoulder catch he made in the first game was an NFL receiver catch.

But yeah, if you can't do it with some consistency, your value is limited.

He's very inconsistent.

I'm not sure if there is a way to teach this young man a new trick but I'm hoping (and I think he will) that he comes up big in moments when SU needs him most. Needed him the first game will need him again.

After seeing how much the offense utilized Riley and N.Johnson, I wondered if there was intent on both establishing them within the offensive scheme (mission accomplished) and also to plant the seed for game-planning by Clemson. I think slightly de-emphasizing our downfield throwing but knowing they have film from WMU makes us a little more difficult to predict. This is what we would want, as long as we have the ability to execute on all fronts (includes the running game, especially between the tackles). So, personally, I am hoping and expecting greater utilization of Custis and maybe Butler or Harris as well against Clemson. (S.Johnson showed some good downfield speed as well, IMO).

I wonder if we go big at some point. Harris/Custis/Johnson and then one of riley/johnson. both the kids have gotten deep with good releases against press but the throws were off.

Perhaps our receivers are less effective when they are lined up with athletic coverage backs of the same size??

I guess we'll see... But I agree there seemed to be a tactical effort to get Riley, in particular, more involved... He has the speed to cause safeties fits in the secondary...

Morant / Turner were not as good of an edge blocker as Custis, IMHO. He pasted a dude on one of Dungey's scrambles. Honestly I think he and butler are going to have more of an impact in that regard with opening holes for 10+82 on the edge with the quick hitters. We shall see.

We have been asking this question for 4 years. Seems like a motor and heart deficit. Even the G5 and FCS teams he should dominate, he doesnt. At the end of the day you have to want the ball more and battle. Don't see it. Thus, we still have questions at wr.

He makes great catch on really hard plays to make but doesn’t make the easy catch which to me means a lack of concentration on watching the ball into his hands. Focus on jugs with someone hitting his hands while catching and focusing on catch to tuck. Some just have no hands at all. If that was case he wouldn’t make hard catch either. We need cause he is an unbelievable blocker

No. He is who he is. He's going to lose trust in the QBs because he's not bringing down what should be long plays for gain or touchdowns. If it isn't a short or intermediate route, he won't catch the ball. He blocks when he wants to as well.
