Does Dickie V Know Something We Don't?

I apologize again to the woman I spilled beer on when I was really drunk and took my seat when McNabb and company were playing VT. I wish you took my offer to buy you and your husband dinner. And by the way, thanks again to your husband for not pummeling me because that's what I would have done is some bloke spilled 20 ounces on my wife!

Syracuse basketball is one of the most recognizable programs in the sport. We don't need gimmicks to draw attention to ourselves, save that for lesser programs trying to increase their visibility. There is absolutely no reason to mess with one of the most unique home court advantages there is.

I am completely against this. It makes us look like we're wetting our pants in excitement over playing Duke. "DUKE! Oh my god!"

We've played Kentucky, we've played UConn, we've played UCLA, etc. We play UNC this year too(a better program IMO). Why move it for Duke? Why are they so special?

Not to mention it changes the sightlines for the players, lessening our home court advantage. Not a fan of this. Kind of a slap in the face to all of our great rivalries over the years. Duke is not "better" than Georgetown or UConn or Louisville, etc. was. We're Syracuse. We play and beat the best regularly. Duke is no different than any of the other top programs that come to the Dome that we expect to beat.

And you don't think a 50,000+ strong sea of orange will create a home advantage?

Do you people understand that this is not us "getting excited" for Duke? This is Syracuse's showcase for their own unique venue (which game-to-game holds more than any other, and can be configured to make unbreakable records-unless someone wants to play in an outdoor football stadium). ESPN will hype this beyond belief. Hall of Famer versus Hall of Famer. For the life of me, I can't imagine where the "why are we making such a big deal about Duke?" comes from... It is about us! It is about showcasing what is unique/great about SU. When you do something original, you try to pick the highest profile matchup, to play on the biggest stage, for the biggest audience. Regarding Season ticket holders, some seats mmiiight not be as great. But you can say that you were in the biggest audience to watch an on-campus game (which btw will double the offerings from every other school in the nation but ours). Stop being grumpy. Enjoy that we have an AD and progressive administration who puts our assets on display in the highest profile settings.

@DickieV: I'm thinking how the Carrier Dome will rock when the Cuse & HoFer Jim Boeheim welcome the Dukies -gut says they break record of over 50 K !
Mike Waters fans the flames...

We already showcase our own unique venue yearly. It's unique as it is. And we can already say "the biggest audience". Why does the court need to be moved? We routinely break our own attendance records with the court where it is.

And why Duke? Why not UNC? Why not Indiana?

And you don't think a 50,000+ strong sea of orange will create a home advantage?

I think the trade-off of creating an unfamiliar situation for our own team vs. an extra 15,000 fans...I think that's a net loss as far as home court advantage.

Once you hit the high 20's-30,000's with the court as it is, it's already a huge crowd. I'm not sure more fans really matters for home court advantage, beyond that point.

Changing the court makes it a first time situation for our own team. Maybe not a huge deal, but a huge part of home court advantage is the comfort level of the home players.

I'm already part of the biggest audience to watch an on-campus game. And I didn't have to watch the game from a lousy/worse seat in order to do so.

Someday, when you've been a season ticket holder & booster for 30+ years, see if you don't mind being shuffled off to a worse seat for the best game of the year.

Or down the road from Manley to the Dome?

Okay, point taken. But here's my logic. If the Duke home game transformed into a center court extravaganza, then I was thinking, "Wow, that's definitely something I would make road trip for." "Wow", I thought, "I would even do some drinking for something that cool!" Which then made me think about the various road trips I have made to the Dome over the years. Which ended with my mind coming to that glorious day which I still have a strong sense of guilt over. I was just trying to exercise the demon. So it really wasn't that far off topic in my mind!

That was you!! I should have kicked your ass!

I hate this idea. Been waiting for this game for so long. It is a shame my seat will be way worse than it normally is. It is a shame the homecourt advantage will be greatly reduced.

I really hope common sense surfaces here, the season ticket holders that have made this program are heard and this foolish idea is rejected.

It would be beyond awesome! It would get HUGE coverage by all the media outlets. It would certainly help the Orange brand by any measure.

People moaned just as loud when moving from Manley Field House to the Dome. How this any different from moving from normal Dome mode to center-court Dome mode? The season ticket holders get a new location with the new center-court mode. Big deal. Stop whining about the great things in life like having a season ticket to the Dome. Holy moly, there are starving fans in New Jersey who will barely get to see any LIVE games anymore now that we are in the ACC!!!

It's funny reading Axe's tweets. He doesn't mention nor understand that donations and season tix have already been paid. Many seats will be worse, many much worse. This is something you decide on before collecting payment. Maybe they will reimburse people for getting lesser seats.

This is once again the logic that we should just boycott the game and make them play it in an empty dome with pigeons flying around just to prove we're not impressed.

Not at all. The University should treat it like every other home game we've played. The fans will treat it like the numerous other big games against top teams that we've played.

Was there something wrong with what we did for Villanova 2010, Georgetown last year(obviously the result), ND 2005, etc.? That's what we do, and it's better than what anyone else can do. Why mess with it? For what?

Question for you: Would you rather a dynamic pricing model for Syracuse basketball?

Maybe, just maybe, you as a loyal Syracuse Fan, can appreciate that you will "sacrifice" a bit of your sight-line vantage point (this is a maybe, but a real possibility, but you won't have worse seats than thousands have paids hundreds/thousands of dollars for in NCAA tourney games) for the sake of Syracuse University and the ACC making history (with our TV partner covering it like no other regular season conference game we've had). In addition, Boeheim and Coach K might only be coaching a few more years, you would be letting more folks in the door to be a part of history, when these legends meet for the first time as leaders within the ACC. This might pay off in more money for the ACC in future TV contracts, even more more showcase games for Syracuse in the future, and more wins across the board for Syracuse athletics when the funding through those contracts improve... Be a good neighbor (and fan), think long for the University. It is not always about each inconvenience. This would be for the greater good.

He's just saying what we're all thinking.. If you didn't spill beer on someone during that 1998 SU-VT game, then you should have checked your pulse.

All of that could already be achieved, while leaving the court where it always is.

It can be Boeheim vs. Coach K in a heavily hyped matchup in front of a record crowd as it is.

Do we not remember the hype our 35,000 got just this past year? We don't need to move the court to break that or get that hype.
