Does Roberson get back on track tonight?

I tend to agree. I think he brings it tonight. I actually liked his effort on the offensive side in the beginning of the game against NC State. However, according to Boeheim it's his defense (or lack thereof) which got him pulled. I trust Boeheim knows what he is doing - he's a hall of famer and has accomplished much more than almost any other college coach. That being said, I still can't but think that he ought to be careful here. It would be a shame to see Robe's will/desire broken.

If there was ever a game for it, this is it. UNC is big, and we need to really hit the boards.

I think he finishes with a double double.

i actually think he is mentally just not there and he continues to struggle. I hope I am wrong but his last few games do not give me any hope that his switch will all of a sudden flip

He's due! Fix it, Tyler. Come out like a Bull. Ned the Bull.

To UNC: "You probably have academic fraud but you could always use a little bit more, am I right? Am I right? ammmmiritttttee?"

I am hopeful but not expecting much. Body language leads me to think there is more to this story behind the scenes. We need him but Lydon at the 4 makes us a ton better.

I agree with Marsh, looks like he mentally checked out a few weeks ago

If that's the case, he's as good as gone, and we have another schollie opening up for 16-17.

I didn't notice why he was subbed out after just a few minutes in the game. However when he was subbed back in about 5 minutes later less than half way through the 1st half when Caleb Martin subbed out and Rowan came in, I knew that Roberson was going to be taken out almost immediately. He left Rowan alone to hit 2 totally uncontested jumpers for 5 straight points right in front of where I was sitting. Then Malachi missed on a drive and Rowan grabbed the rebound. This was all within a minute and a half. Sad.

What was really strange was how disconnected he was while sitting on the bench, he sat there not watching the game but staring straight across court towards the free standing bleachers. Hope we see an engaged, energetic Roberson, we need him.

Wonder how close he is to graduating for if he is, I see Roberson transferring to say Rutgers. Super bad team in the B1G close to his hometown of Union, NJ. Would have superstar status there...

I doubt Boeheim...on the road...gives him much of an opportunity to get out of the slump. Unless Coleman gets in foul trouble quickly.

The bigger question is whether he'll actually get the minutes to put up good numbers. I'm guessing he will, by default. I expect DC to be in early foul trouble. UNC is going to attach us inside and we all know the refs will comply.

I think Roberson struggles tonight. He just is not there. This goes back to before Boeheim made his comment which I had no problem with. I don't understand why he is playing this way but at this point it is what it is. He does not give maximum effort all the time and as Boeheim said we tell him that and he thinks he is and then he watches the tape and realizes it. Then it's the same process over and over. I think he is a great kid but he is like that college football player that mails it in at times and takes plays off.

I would love nothing more but I just don't think it's happening.

I really don't think it's a mental thing with Tyler I think he's just terribly inconsistent. Rebounding is a skill, you just don't lose a skill one game and get it back the next. I think part of it is teams are not allowing him to get into position to rebound and are focusing on him the second a shot goes up more than him not taking adderall.

I agree that we are better with Lydon at the 4, when Robe is playing like this. However, when he is on, man can he be a game changer. Also, for this to work well, Coleman needs to be a factor. I love DC - you can tell he is very engaged and puts forth the effort. We just need to get him involved early with some touches. When he can get an early basket, he becomes much more active. We need him tonight and we may even need Chino!

Any chance there's something physical going on we don't know about? We all keep talking about the mental aspect, but what if it's something else.

Probably not, since JB wouldn't bash a kid he knows is hurt. Just wondering.

I think you answered your own question. Boehiem would speak differently about Roberson if he were fighting through an injury.

There has been a lot of talk on this board about Roberson's feelings (and how Boeheim's words make him feel) but not nearly enough talk about Roberson's play, which to me is extremely worrying.

One of the reasons I have said SU will be a national championship contender next year is that I expected Roberson to be a 10 & 10 guy who plays solid defense and shoots around 50% from the field.

Two things about his play lately scare me. First, he has fallen apart defensively. There is no reason for a junior with his obvious athletic gifts to suddenly fall apart defensively in the middle of the season.

Second, his terrible play comes directly on the heel of the best stretch in his career. I had assumed things were falling into place for Roberson. That kind of up and down inconsistency worries me when its anything other than shooting.

If we can't rely on Roberson to be a force defensively and on the boards next year, then we are a much worse team. I am 100% sure Boeheim knows this and is trying his best to fix it, but ultimately its on Roberson. In my mind, next year's team has one more question mark than I thought it had a couple weeks ago.

I think I may be hoping that he's hurt more than anything else. I really thought he was going to explode this year, and clearly it hasn't gone that way. I sincerely hope the rumors we've been hearing about his people telling him to go pro are completely false. I hope this is a phase brought on by losing a girlfriend or something stupid like that, because I will be very very disappointed if this is just listening to the losers he should have cut from his life a long time ago.

But being hurt and maybe not telling the coach about it is something that could potentially explain his dropping off defensively and his lack of explosiveness or desire getting after the boards. But I'm probably just grasping at straws here. Sucks though.
