Donnie Done For Season

Had a PER of 21 and was starting to come on before he got injured. Defensive issues or not he was our best player. If he leaves it's real bad. I'm sure they'll be a bunch spin by some in the offseason explaining how other moves will make us better.

I wouldn't chase Donnie off, I just don't think he's staying.

Also, Brandon Huntley Hatfield averaged nearly a double double and had a PER of 20.2 for Louisville in 23-24 when they won 8 games. There are only 5 starting spots and 7-8 guys who are going to get minutes. They all have to be clicking to be safely in the tournament.

And there will be a bunch of people congratulating him for leaving us. "Go be great" and all that crap.

Yup it's a long way from 120-ish in KP just to get into the 30s(safely in)/40s (bubble area) in one season. And that is even tougher if it's the same HC and 40-60% of that team. I understand people not wanting wholesale roster turnover, but that's the reality of NIL era combined with significantly flawed roster. I wouldn't keep anyone. Take the opportunity to rebuild with a fresh perspective. However, the fact that they're looking at players like that kid from Jax St is a giant red flag IMO.
Thank you Fly Rodder for saying this. The roster needs to go top to bottom.

I would not even keep JJ and Freeman unless they're begging to come back and sat down with the staff and the new Frosh to seriously figure out what is going to change. Take the Fran Brown approach, cut the head off the snake in that locker room. If there's a whisper of not being bought in then send them on their way.

My only keeper is Petar because he actually plays within his role game after game and can have a huge upside down the road.

We can’t keep operating that way. It’s Groundhog Day and we keep getting worse. I’d like to keep the freshmen.

My concern is that I don’t think the transfer market will be as hot this season as it was in the previous two seasons. They’ll be transfers on the market for sure, but I really think that programs are going to really start to spend the NIL on retention like we are seeing in football. We’ll see in the coming weeks with our results, but the fact that the wheels haven’t completely fell off this season yet, which I thought it would after Maryland makes me think that the culture is better than the overall record of this team. I think for Autry, continuity with the players is essential for his development as a coach. A complete roster turnover will also be way more expensive. We will have to reach a much higher bar of success to maintain it the following year. Not just making the tourney, like getting to the second weekend atleast and top 25 throughout the year. It’s more likely to fail than succeed and at a higher cost. If we lose more than 2 guys to the portal, the money to buy portal talent should go to the buyout. I think it’s critical for several reasons to retain and continue to develop as a team and get a point guard and a center in the portal. If next season doesn’t work out for Autry and we move on, then we should go major portal shopping with the next coach.

For the last 2 posters normally I would agree but I just cannot stomach the defense coming from the players that are able to return.

We can bring in the best defenders in the league at the 3-5 but if the Guards are turnstiles with JJ and Moore plus 2 freshman it’s gonna be a problem.

Yeah I see your point about the concern with the defense. I just think that a complete roster turnover with the same coach just isn’t going to work and waste a lot of people’s money. Autry may not even have a choice, but to turnover the most or the entire roster, but we’ll find out when the portal opens. But case in point, the only time a coach should be doing massive turnover to a roster is in year 1.
