Donnie Freeman in the portal

There were things I was holding my nose about Hodgson, too. I held out hope when it was clear Hodgson wasn't the guy that we would move on to somebody exciting. Now, I'd rather we got Hodgson and just collectively held our nose while he was here.

I'm sure I've made my position known, but I'll repeat it one last time: I'm certainly not going to argue that Providence has been worse than Syracuse, I'm arguing that this doesn't matter in the era of basketball that we find ourselves in. We seem to all collectively agree that any SEC is a step up and a better job, because they have more money. Our history is better than most SEC schools, but it just doesnt matter anymore.

I'll say a nice thing about Gerry as a coach. I really do like the staff he's putting together.

If anyone wants to keep talking (or fighting) about it, I welcome any private messages. I apologize for getting Freeman's thread so off track 😅
Maybe Donnie will end up in Little Rhody with your buddy Hodgson, wouldn’t that be karma?

I think most people would agree. Freeman was by far the most talented player on last years team.

And we should all be able to agree that his motor was in question
He was horrible defensively.
He couldn’t handle a double team to save his life. He was too perimeter oriented
He took bad shots time after time
I never wanna see him try a skip pass ever again.

I’m glad he’s moving on, maybe another coach can get the best out of him and if so watch out. But more than likely he’s not gonna play to his pay…again.

We need a clean break from most of the previous guys. Donnie just never made sense to fit into this new era with Gmac. Not once did I think “ya that’s exactly the type of player Gmac wants”. Donnie would be perfect at like Duke in a role like Maliq brown (which is ironic cause they couldn’t be more opposite types of players, but similar playing time and off the bench) just a piece of the puzzle, and he would excel with others opening up opportunities for him. He has proven you cannot build a team around him, at least not yet.

I agree with all of those things. I just think he's a player who wants to score without much contact (perimeter play, fade away jumpers, etc.). If he was willing to assert himself more, he could be really dangerous. A lot of people on this board have said that a better coach (than Red) might be able to get him to play better ball. I don't disagree, but if you're a finesse guy who plays kinda soft, the coach might not make much of a difference unless he truly buys into it.

Agree 1000%!

Got caught with your pants down
Nah, it was just the longest response that he deserved. I'm working on listening when people tell me that they're not worth talking to.

Again, if anyone wants to keep this going, go ahead and shoot me a message. There's no need to clog up the Freeman thread with this.

The rumor going around was that Hodgson did not pass the vetting process. Closets sometimes don't hide things well enough.

He certainly did. Not his smartest moment.

Edit: I have no inside information. But I facepalmed when I heard the quote. Talk about burning a bridge.
Which quote was that? I’ve lost track of all the JB banter over the past two months.

Additionally, 48-10 is Syracuse's record vs Providence all time. Including 21-0 during the 1980s. they went an entire decade in the same conference as us and took a goose egg. We also won the final 9 games in the series.

The dominance was just beginning to end...

Unfortunately, our first 10 years against UConn looked a lot like that, too.
Didn't quite turn out the same.

Big talent
Little heart

That's why I insist that he's a three. You nailed it.

You are making the argument, and you are entitled to your opinion, that a school that has been to what? One sweet 16 in the last 25 years, is an equal job as Syracuse because one guy decided he wanted to coach there instead of at Syracuse. When we don't know if that guy was even offerd the job at Syracuse. P.C. hasn't been an equal job to Syracuse since the 70's.
Ernie D, from the key, never misses, always swishes

On a national show, he said the reason Red didn’t succeed was because his two best players played terribly. Basically blamed Donnie and JJ (presumably) for the bad season.

I guess I just don't...care? Best stretch this team played was with him off the court. I don't care about potential, floor or ceiling or any of that crap. I care about results.
