Donnie Freeman injures foot

It will eventually.

Devo all but saying outright "He gone".

Maybe he's just guessing, but I don't think he'd be saying this publicly unless it was known behind the scenes.

"... I don't know man... He might be going somewhere else." (@ about the 3:00 mark)
Devo was shocked when Copeland left last year but everyone knew he was going to be out the door.

I doubt it. Texas wasn’t happy with Barnes or Smart and they’ve done just fine at Marquette and Tennessee. I don’t think it’s a coaching issue.
Barnes had them in the top-5 about 40% of his seasons at UT. Miller about the same at Arizona and now he'll have UT's resources. Shaka's a very good coach, but I don't think he's built for a program dominated by boosters. And even he had a top-5 season at UT and won a conference championship.

There’s a particular school after Donnie that has unlimited money. If that’s what matters to him, he will get paid. But I’m hearing he is still interested in coming back to cuse. Coin flip
Arkansas

Guess that will be the norm forever going forward . “We have money, but the other school has more”. Oh well

Well of course we will never win big bank against schools. That is why we have to win in other aspects and other ways than just playing big bank little bank. We aren't alone in that world. We have to be a place that players like Freeman would want to stay. Right now we aren't.

Are we putting players in the NBA?
Are we making the tournament every year like we used to?
Are we winning big-time games on the national stage?
Do we have big-time coaching?
Do we have skill development?
How is our culture on and off the court? Work hard on both ends? Prepare like the NBA? NBA Offense and Defense?
Is the DOME rocking again?

This is how you will get certain (NOT ALL) but certain kids the right kids to stay. We have to build a foundation and that starts with coaching and culture.

I could see him staying for less...

There would need be some sweetners tho...
  • Obviously, bag has to be at least competitive.
  • He needs development. Who's going to work with and develop him on this staff effectively?? How about Melo? We need to fill open coaching spots as well - that would at least be a strong sell.
I know Melo has an announcing gig to compete with, but he'd be a heck of an asset as an assistant.

I have no idea if this idea is realistic. I am just spitballing out loud.

Maybe if they hang around Fran's beefcakes enough some of their muscle will rub off on our hoops players.
Maybe, we need something to work being that we had guys known for devouring food and they only got fat (Lampkin) or remained the same ( pizza man Marek).

Honestly, at this point that's the best that we can hope for from talented players these days. I am glad to not be hearing that he hated his experience at Syracuse and can't wait to get out.

As some of us have said all along, "we have more NIL" does not mean "we have enough NIL." You're still competing against Texas oil money, Tyson family fortune, etc. Big, big business.

SU will be more competitive, but in cases like Donnie, it may not be enough.

But does it have better winters than Cuse. I think not.
