Donnie Freeman Injury Updates (Not Out)

I hear ya, but prior to the Monmouth game, the PR person for the team wrote me back right away, saying Starling was available and Betsey wasn't dressing due to the injury he suffered in the Monmouth game. How is this any different?

The thing I noticed last year seeing Donnie in person in Brooklyn was that his legs are super skinny. I chalked that up to him being so young as an 18 year old. But then this offseason he built his upper body up a great deal and looks like an NBA upper body. However, his legs are still super skinny. A lot of that is genetics, but man, I hope he can get those built up a little bit to help carry the brunt of his upper body muscle.

Maybe across the season though he could be in some trouble. I'm thinking he'll be ok this week. Sadiq playing aggressive defense is what the whole Houston team plays so if they single out Sadiq then that's the refs. As a freshman he just needs to be more aware of the fouls.

100% White. Betsey is more versatile, position wise, plus he's coming off an injury. Plug White in at the 4, then trust Betsey and Anthony to hold down backup minutes at 2-4.

Obviously not as good as if we had him.

But look, we're in Vegas. Houston we're playing with house money. Freeman or not we're not expected to win.

Kansas has always been the more realistic opportunity for a win.

I think we’re going to see more Fennell and Suare and Zephier and for longer than we want tonight and it could get ugly but maybe the best choice considering game 2 and game 3.

As an aside, I do find it funny how after Monmouth quite a few people were dragging Freeman's game, and now we're facing the prospect of him being out and it's doomsday.

If we are stuck in a halfcourt game, I don't see what Freeman brings to the table other than 5 fouls and maybe a trey. He doesn't rebound. He likes to camp on the perimeter and Red doesn't utilize him properly in a high-low, PNR game. He's good for 2-3 fadeaway turnovers and likely wouldn't get the favorable calls plowing to the basket that he did against the cupcakes.

Yes I'm talking myself into thinking we don't need him, but at the same time, I think his presence in the lineup is a bit overstated. If he was an aggressive rebounder then he would be a huge loss in a game like this.

If we're missing Freeman and Betsey, things look a lot harder than if they were both healthy.

Kyle, Souare and White will need to play well, and avoid foul trouble. It wouldn't surprise me if we see Diawara play some minutes. His redshirt is already gone... We'll need a big physical guy to fight for a few minutes. It will help the other bigs stay fresh and avoid foul trouble if Diawara can give some decent time.
