Donnie Freeman Injury Updates (Not Out)

Caution and patience are key here for Donnie. We need him healthy for as much of the season as possible and for his pro prospects.
That’s the thing about injuries today. If you’re getting paid 1.5 million whether you play or not, and you think you’re going to be drafted anyway, what’s the rush?

I’m not 100% convinced, however that Donnie would be drafted if he does not play and prove it this year against top fight competition.

In just the Las Vegas tournament, I saw 25 players who are more pro ready than he is. Houston has three, maybe four, Tennessee has at least two, Kansas, at least three, Michigan at least three, Iowa state at least two. Gonzaga two, etc. those are just the teams I watched closely. Not to mention of the rest of the teams in the tournament, plus Purdue, Arizona, UNC, Louisville, Yukon, Duke, etc. then there’s the euros.

He might be here again next year. It pays better than the G league. But of course, opens us up to a bidding war to retain him.

Freeman is not on this mock list. But somehow JJ is. So i think this is likely trash

I really hope we don’t end up with a Syracuse football situation on our hands here.

I fear they will run parallel courses this year. I don't see us finishing better than .500 in the ACC this year. The Freeman injury status is likely much worse than what is beyond conveyed. SU athletics sadly is in the dreaded death spiral with multi system organ failure.

Yea same. Part of me is wondering if the team got news before Iowa St that Donnie was out for a lot longer than expected. or maybe it was just a matter of realizing just how screwed they were without their top scorer and the extra length that Donnie brings against better teams.

Just feels like all the eggs are all going in the basket for the ACC. All we can hope is Tennessee is hungover from a Vegas flight back, then a quick Thanksgiving and then a trip back up to CNY. Unlikely but who knows. I think our defense will look better when it's fresh, but no way the offense will be fully adjusted without Donnie.

It's going to take these next 5 cupcakes in December to get this team's head back in the right space and work out the roles again. Who knows, maybe that gives more time for the bench to get ready for more manageable games in the ACC and the starters to get their heads back on straight. Confidence is a tricky thing in college sports, they gotta build it back up now.

And If Donnie's not gonna be back by Clemson and I mean actually 100% then we might as well start the coaching search Tuesday night when it goes south.

  • Loosing 4 straight games to is terrible
  • Loosing 4 straight where it was close at halftime or after is not good either
  • Losing 4 straight to Top 25 teams is tough (No other team has had this run of SOS as far as I can tell)
  • Losing 4 straight to Top 25 teams without your best player/leading scorer PF is tough

There are a lot of noise on this board about a lot of things that sound just like last year. Well its not last year.

  • We have a better team
  • We stay in contention against tough competition (Iowa St. was an anomoly)
  • We have exactly 1 Player playing from last years team (With JJ and Donnie being out at times)

We need our shooters to hit at 33% from the 3. We missed significant number open 3 point shots this year. With this struggle, it nullified our ability to drive into the lane and have either a layup of a dunk from William Kyle. Nonwithstanding our horrific Free Throw showcase, we can be competative if we manage to shoot better. I like our Point Guard play. He plays within himself and not forces a lot. I would like to limit the turnovers from NG and KA speicifally. I would like to stop the quick 3 point shot when we are shooting 18%. The offence functions best if we have 72 possesions. Our Defence is good but requires a lot of effort. So far that was good until the late 1st half and entire 2nd half of the Iowa St. Game.

I think Tennessee will kill us as we have limited big men to counter what they have.

IMHO ==> Only way we win: (as we realized other Teams give us nothing)
  • we get fast break points
  • limit offensive rebounds (which requires our guards to pinch in on rebounding effort and potentially limiting fast break points),
  • Hit our open 3 point shots at a high rate.
  • Avoid heat checks.
  • Continue to play defence like we did for the first 2 1/2 games of the Vegas Tournament
These five we can control and execute with attitude and effort.

Regarding Donnie, we have seen many big men get hurt and recovery time is significant. If he comes back in January, we will not see Donnie at full strength until February. It takes time to get back to full ability from any injury. I hope he does not rush back and hopefully gets well enough to play and contribute soon.

Yup. IMO, there’s zero chance he gets drafted if he can’t show he can play half of a collegiate season let alone an NBA season of 81+ games.
Zero chance ? Zero ? I wouldn’t give aliens landing on my lawn and challenging my family to a game of 5 on 5 zero. I think it’s low but not zero

A big man breaking a FOOT or metatarsal and being functional a year later is like 50% prior play. Two years later it’s 20 to THIRTY% play at pre injury level. Odds are he has reinjured something, and odds are 70-80% he won’t be as good as last year, next year.

What is this bizarre comment? Are you some kind of a foot doctor or have experience with these injuries? Or just spouting off random percentages? Please provide more context if you’re going to assert these facts with such authority.
