Donnie said Betsey will surprise

The Betsey commitment is the one that pushed my enthusiasm for this past offseason from happy to ecstatic.

It was a very true measure of how big the NIL and recruiting turnaround was.

Of the transfers, Betsey committed to Syracuse last, after our roster already had Freeman, Kingz, White, Kyle, Souare and even Anthony and Fennell as guys who could be competition for Betsey in earning minutes.

Guys don't transfer to peer programs for that situation unless they love the Coach and/or the money is really good. And yet, here Betsey resides!

Betsey gives the team higher upside and deeper depth. We still look good without him, but if Betsey becomes a 40% 3pt shooter who can come in at both forward positions and play strong defense, the teams ceiling is very high.
I agree. Betsy is the guy who can make this team special and take some pressure off Freeman.

This guy, Frog, should have been named White Mike

I am not good at editing videos, etc... but these posts made me think of this:

but how are they on defense
At least the potential to be decent exist. Eddie was a disaster on defense, Kyle/Souare at least will offer some resistance. Sadiq White is an amazing athlete known for defense. Nate George isn't great but Carlos was too small for this level. 25/26 team has the size and ability to be decent defensively if they buy in.

I've heard of a White Mike before, but never a White Anthony.

For the uninitiated, a White Mike is the white guy in a friend group predominantly made up of black males, often actually named Mike, generally with hobbies and interests stereotypically ascribed to black men, that the black women in the male group's counterpart female friend group may find attractive and date. For a very literal example of a "White Mike" see the character White Mike from The Wayans Bros. TV show circa the late 1990s. For a darker interpretation of the White Mike stock character, see The Wire.

I think George plays more than 30. Maybe if we blow out some cupcakes, his season average will be lower, but I think he's the one player with a skillset nobody else in the team can duplicate.

In close games, only foul trouble or an injury are going to put George on the bench. Or did you want true freshman Fennell, below average mid major Zephir or non point guard Starling playing those minutes?

I would be very surprised if George averaged less than 35 minutes against P4 teams this season.

If he plays less, that means things have gone very wrong or very right.
It's October and there is still hating on Zephir? Maybe this kid, who has played D1 basketball by the way, said "I'm ok being the 13th scholarship. I wanna go to Syracuse and play in front of 30k+"

So, since you reacted to my post, let me ask you the following :

Do you realistically see any reason why George would be benched in a close game so Zephir can get minutes at pg other than injury or foul trouble to George (and Fennell and Starling and probably Anthony too)?

For reference

Zephir - Master of the Pan Flute -
is effectively a walk-on who is on scholarship.

And as such, no sane person would ever expect to see him play meaningful minutes, except in a “break glass in case of emergency” situation.

I’d imagine JJ and/or Luke would take over PG-like duties when Nait is on the bench.

There’s zero downside to having a 13th dude on scholly.

Right, I certainly am not a Zephir "hater."

I am glad he's here and that he chose to be one of us.

But I don't want him on the court unless we're up by a lot...

Along your line of thinking, it is hard to play more than 8-9 players, 10 at an outside max in a game. Having 12-13 players is a luxury but some one (or 3 to 4) will not be playing. Unless there is a number of injuries (and let’s hope there is not), it will be a player management problem to keep all 13 players happy.

At least 4 players (Starling, Kyle, Zephir, and Kingz) will be gone after this year due to graduation/exhausting eligibility. Freeman will be gone if he has a decent year. One or more other players will be gone due to lack of playing time or better opportunities.

Depending on the source, Kingz has two years of eligibility left due to his time at Junior College.

It was specifically brought up in the other Preseason Practice thread. Fennell looks to be the heir apparent Point Guard but I don't think you see George come off the court much. JJ is not playing point.

If Fennell is steady and plays both ends of the floor I think even in big games 6-7 mpg at Pg and 3-4 at SG is a solid estimate putting George around 33.
