DT Curtis Harper has graduated

That's not how I see it; he's deservedly bragging about graduating a semester early, and having enough eligibility left to complete a master's program. There's nothing else to read into it, in my opinion.

I read it like you did when I saw it on Twitter and was all happy for him and his accomplishment. Then, I came over here and I'm all depressed now.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I thought too there were some ways to build some cushion with summer/online courses too. Does that sound right?

yea many athletes take tougher classes over summer session, only take 6 or so credits and focus on those tough classes. So not only is their gpa get a boost from higher summer grades but also can take easier course load in season. Higher their cumulative gpa is harder it is for a bad semester to make them ineligible.

I admit I tend to lean to the optimistic side, but that's exactly what I took from it too. Congrats to Curtis!

He tweeted that he was now a graduate student FROM Syracuse.

If he said that he was a grad student AT Syracuse, I'd feel better.

Hope so, Cubs, but it didn't feel that way to me. He gone, IMO.

Congrats to this young man. Regardless of whatever he does now, he accomplished what he came here to do. Best of luck to him whether he decides to stay and further his education while playing some football, or move on with his life. Good job!

Doesn't the NCAA and universities require student-athletes to be a full time student and be making standard progress toward a degree to remain eligible? 3 from 5 doesn't seem like he took classes fulltime or failed enough classes to lose scholarship or eligibility.

Let us not forget all the UConn and Georgetown basketball greats that stayed eligible... Standard progress can be faked while actual progress can be a bit trickier.

In my friends case believe he had a pretty serious injury he had to rehab at some point in addition to, what he stated, were countless hours of training "of the clock" to ensure he kept his place. Fwiw might have only been 10-12 credits shy but still 5 years to get there.

We have athletes tweet "University of Syracuse" and "Sryacuse", but now we're inferring a transfer based on a preposition?

Whatever, I did it in 4 1/2, and didn't so much as get a part time job because I memorized all the drink specials by night at the various campus bars. You think that stuff is easy?

I'm not proud.

Curtis should be.
Overachiever

I agree with how OrangeXtreme is lawyering the statement. That said, I find how you’ve called it out to rather funny.

Finishing off with "Until Next Time" seems an odd way to end that message if it's simply bragging. Hope you're right though - sure would be great to have him on the DLine for two more years.

That was the specific line that didnt give me the warm and fuzzies about him returning.

Everything about his post implies he is transferring IMO

Hope I’m wrong but that’s how I read it

agree with you. He is using his final couple of years elsewhere unfortunately when reading his tweet.

And was this the OP with the "mass exodus" warning?
He wasn’t.

We went 1-10 and were national laughing stocks. It wasn’t ridiculous to assume there’d be an inordinate amount of transfer-outs especially considering the core of our defense opted for the draft.
