I am saying that there is a reason most college SSDMs played offense in high school. Clearing the ball is a big part of playing that position in college. Having 1 SSDM on the field who isn't trusted to handle and make decisions is a huge liability.Players are at Syracuse. Are you saying they aren’t good enough and shouldn’t be at Syracuse?
Saam Olexo, an excellent pole with a solid handle as an LSM, was given a short stick in 2021 and struggled in the clear, if I remember correctly. Andrew Helmer, before him, also struggled in that area when converted in 2019-2020.
It's an option, no doubt. But the clear, which we're already concerned about, is likely a partial cause for the staff's potential reservation to convert 1-2 of the depth defenders into SSDMs.
