Duke has two Final Fours in the last 15 years

Since Duke has turned into a one and done factory, it has been the least successful period of coach Ks career.

Almost every coach would kill for that level of "not succeeding", but the reality is he set the bar high and he's not meeting it.

Their first one and done team won a title him and Calipari are equal both have 1 title under the current format. No other school has fielded a freshman dominated 1 and done team other than Uk and Duke at all since the rule change forced the best kids to spend a year in college.

This thread is pretty embarrassing and petty. We returned everyone from a sweet 16 and lost to an average Baylor team and the talent level next year might be the lowest of Boeheims tenure. He also played his kid 39 minutes when he was getting lit up like a Christmas tree and missing every shot.

I don’t think things are that bad but you can make a case this team ends up in the bottom third of the ACC given no one improves year to year anymore.

Battle is also about to start something that has never happened to a Syracuse player leaving with eligibility to go undrafted. We’ve never had a Trevon Duval or the Harrison’s the guys who have left went first round that’s about to change.

Won the championship both times but that’s pretty unbelievable. Every year they are preseason top 5, get a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAA’s and have top 3-5 talent in the whole country (if not the top talent). Considering all of the above, this is shocking underperformance to go 2 for 15!

If we get one McDonalds All American we are expected to get to the Final Four or win the title. Imagine this board if we had 3 of the top 5 NBA draft picks ( including Superman Zion) and the best defender in all of college basketball? It’s simply super hard to win the tournament and to even get to the final four.

Cuse!

Wow.

Didn’t realize that.

Your lines about mich state butler and nova, senior laden teams, cut against your point that duke underperforms. Duke gets top recruits but only for one year. All that tells you is that getting one and dones might not be the best way to win championships. This is further evidenced by kentucky. cal is the king of one and dones and he only has one championship. Moreover, there is a period in the timeframe you select that duke didnt have as many one year players. Since duke became the premier one and done program, theyve won one championship. Not underperforming.

Hate duke all you want—i do too. But to say theyve underperformed, i think is a weak argument. Its based on a conclusion they should win more because they get one and done players, but one could easily say they should win less because they have less experience and come to the opposite conclusion.
its a choice those programs are making though.

roster management is just as important as talent level...duke mismanaged their roster construction...it bit syracuse hard this year too...they had a lot of good pieces but were missing some key components that prevented them from ultimately being as successful as they could have been given all the weapons that they did have...

Duke/UK etc can basically do whatever they want and just forgot or didn't want to bring some vets and 4 year players along to balance out the youth of their team...sometimes unexpected things happen and throw a wrench in the long term plans...its not easy to make sure each year is maximum potential and perfectly constructed...but that's part of the challenge...

...it doesn't have to be an either or proposition...going exclusively for one and dones is just dumb...but it is a choice that only a few programs can even make in the first place...so i feel it is fair to hold those programs accountable for their folly because they have options that other schools don't.

We quite didn't return everyone for the Baylor game.

Battle graduated, he's more like a running back that doesn't need a 4th year of school.
