Duke Postgame Thread

Allen, McCord, Wax,...last year we had on field leadership...
McCord, Angeli... we had ready made QBs.
Today we have neither.
A performance like that in front of supposedly a sellout crowd!!??
No pride...

I mean this sincerely and as a compliment (not as a referendum): this season has the aroma of a pasqualoni season.
A late era Pasqualoni season!

That's why I pushed back yesterday on the notion that results like yesterday require patience because it's part of Fran's "rebuild". Results like yesterday happen to established programs, we literally saw it here in the late 90s and early 00s.

It was the result of a D that has leaned heavily on the O since last season, and a QB who was not at all ready for prime time.

Haven't seen this mentioned so I'll throw it in here - Duke had a 4th and 3 around midfield, if that in the 2nd. We were a mess on defense. Calling a TO might have forced Duke to punt, instead of the extremely easy 1st down and eventual score.

Rickie is getting killed here, and he clearly didn't play well, but he was let down all over the field today and then became really one dimensional.
So to me Diaz was going for it no matter what because he had zero concerns about the SU offense. I mean zero. I would add that Duke was way more physical than our team was yesterday as well. They were aggressive all game. It was kind of like the Mike Tyson quote "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face ". Syracuse had a plan, Duke punched Syracuse in the face and Syracuse got handled.

After the first pick and watching their O tear us up, I would have told Willis to strap it up you're getting it 45 times and we are going on every 4th down.
Don't disagree but Willis got a shoulder stinger or slight dislocation yesterday. It happened on a run play towards the Duke sidelines. My son saw him come off the field and you could see a trainer looking to try and either pop the shoulder back in or something.

Yesterday is what a football team looks like when they have been riding nothing but an excellent passing game for almost a year and a half and all of a sudden don’t have that horse to ride anymore. What else has this team been good at? Good news is the Fran to the SEC talk should calm down now. Rickie was bad yesterday but the rest of the team , when they should have rallied around the kid, looked like an uninspired mess who gave up before halftime

Pathetic that they didn’t even seem to try in front of a sold out crowd. They should be embarrassed.

In all the years that I've been a fan of Fran brown's football teams. I've never seen a team of his quit. The offense quit on Ricky. That's why he kept having a throw off his back leg. You didn't stick to the foundation that you have been working on all this time. It's okay to lose but don't quit. And the defense went missing in action. Syracuse Football go back and dedicate yourselves to play like there isn't no tomorrow. And support Ricky as next.man up.

Cuse wasn’t organized. We had all our timeouts. Slow it down at that point.

Yep I think number five sensed just that, got pissed off and was starting to step up and take more of leadership role in the vacuum. I think that continues and should be encouraged, Kid is a player

Thanks for your insight. Fran is awesome and I hope he wants to be SU’s football coach for a long time. He makes me a proud alum and for more than his record. Saturday’s game was bad. Real bad.
I bet he learned stuff and addresses this ‘quit issue’ quickly

Beat SMU and keep moving forward

You couldn’t have described this better. And by the way it’s a great thing we have had an excellent passing game and hopefully this was just a one week anomaly with a new QB. For the most part, we have a system of championship level brand of offensive football when it works. Very few defensives, if any, can completely shut it down when it’s operating the way it should. Up until this point, for the most part it has kept us competitive in every game, not necessarily blowing the doors off of many opponents. Coach Brown had alluded to this as not being mature enough to do so. The maturity is with our defense and running game. Defense probably mostly. If we mature defensively and with the running game, not only will it keep us in virtually every game if the passing game struggles. When we get to the level we all want to be at, the Syracuse offensive system can be what puts us over the top. I think we see an immediate shift from bend don’t break defense to opportunistic. It may not look pretty at times, but other parts of the game have to be more apart of the identity of the team than just the passing game.

You can blame many things on Ricky but to say the (non) targeting hit on Cook was Ricky’s fault is asinine.
I was talking about the numerous other throws that cook had to turn around for to get then got blown up.
