Even if you displace them for the students and give the high rollers equitable seats and do something else for their inconvenience (offer VIP experiences, memorabilia, whatever...), many will complain. I don't like that that's how it is, but it's reality.

We are winning and will continue to do so. I just think the Dome atmosphere needs a makeover. It isn't a 'hostile' atmosphere, imo.
 
I've said this before about the dome. its not intimidating to other teams. teams are scared to play in cameron. players know they're in for a rough game when they play at pitt. I honestly think players look forward to playing at the dome. we're gonna be playing in front of 30,000 people? cool!

...exactly why do we need to improve our brand? We're already one of the biggest, best, and most well known college basketball brands in the world. If you ask people on the street to name college basketball teams, we'd probably be one of the first 6 or 7 team names they could rattle off, at worst (Duke, UNC, UCLA, Kentucky would probably be the first four pretty universally).

Also, regarding Cameron: it's called a home court advantage for a reason. You could say that the Dome is an unfair home advantage because it's so cavernous that it creates 1) HUGE crowds and crowd noise that can't be duplicated anywhere else, and 2) difficulty in shooting the ball because if completely screws with your depth perception. If you've ever gone to a gym and shot around and then tried to shoot around in the Dome or anywhere like that, it's MASSIVELY different. I went to the Big Orange hoop camp as a kid, and it took some serious adjustment time.

And yes, Cameron is a glorified high school gym. So is Pauley Pavilion, actually. There's still something great about those old gyms though, they let you know you're watching college kids and don't try to make it feel like a pro event. I love that stuff.

I have to agree. It certainly isn't a weak atmosphere by any means but it just feels more like an NBA game than a college game. Even being front row of the student section felt at times we were unable to have an impact. Therefore it takes the whole building being unruly ( or 60 percent to be accurate) like it was against Pitt in 03 to really rile things up. I am not sure they could do anything with the setup to truly make it more intense. Maybe if there was a way to make it feel more closed in? Not even sure you could do that without making permanent alterations that would affect the setup for football.

Of course money, but even aside from that, how much do you think it is going to increase home court advantage? We are just coming off having the longest home win streak in the nation.

And what about the possilble advantages to the way we currently play. Couldn't the same logic be used to say that since we play in a manner similar to the NCAAT, that we have an advantage in that area? Wouldn't Pitt gladly trade some of those home wins for a serious run in the NCAAT?

I think they should move the student section to be right behind the opponents bench. That would be awesome :)

Was fortunate enough to attend a UNC/Duke game at Cameron Indoor Stadium when I was an undergrad at UNC. I despise the Dookies, but that atmosphere is very unique and rowdy for big-time games. Cameron is old, hot, and small, but I can't blame the Dookies for loving that place. I've also attended games at SU and spent four years in college attending games in the Dean Dome at UNC, and I can definitely see the pros and cons of each place. Likewise, I had a friend going to grad school at Duke and he was able to sneak me into a couple games there (the battier/brand/langdon years). There's no way any basketball fan couldn't love everything about it. Totally sucks you in. Great great great experience. You literally walk across the court to get in and out.

But since you you asked my two cents would be that it would be neat to see, but the people that own season tickets need to be ok with it. They all need to be satisfied with what they are getting in return.
 
Syracuse has a couple options here to keep up with the Duke homecourt advantage. I figure with the ACC money flowing in so fast they'll have to run the incinerators to avoid suffocating, these should be easily doable:

1. Go back to the days of the cagers. Put up a steel cage that completely surrounds the court and is 1" from the minimal out of bounds area. The cage will also have a top on it so it fully encloses the court at a height calculated to be only 1" taller than it needs to be for a 3pt jumper to clear it. The twist will be that there will be harnesses affixed to the outside of the cage whereby they will strap students onto the cage facing the action. The students will completely cover the outside of cage on all sides and the top screaming at the top of their lungs. An added feature would be to make the court out of clear plexiglass and also have students UNDER the court screaming their asses off.

or

2. Suspend the court in a clear plexiglass sphere and then submerge the entire sphere in the deepest part of Onondaga Lake. Fill the lake with rabid sharks. If sharks don't currently get rabies, then have the Bio Dept develop a shark that can get rabies and then give them all rabies. (It would be helpful if these sharks could live off eating mercury, but that is only a nice-to-have). This plan would have the extra bonus of potentially afflicting opposing teams with nitrogen narcosis during games and the bends after games. Even better, put the visitor's locker room on a raft on the surface of the lake so the visiting team would have nitrogen narcosis in the first half and the bends in the second half.

The title and entire premise behind this thread is illogical. I mean while we're at, why not ban any venue that has tough fans? Maybe Jordan's Bulls had an "unfair advantage" when they were winning all those games at the United Center? It's ridiculous to call raucous fan support "an unfair advantage"...indeed one could even consider it to be an (ahem) stupid premise.

you're kidding. the dome is a bigger advantage. look at our personnel. how else could a zone coach, with zero personality, needing an afternoon nap attract the hordes of players he does. don't let cto see this or it will evaporate.
