By main thought watching the first half was that there is no way Dungey makes it through the season. Our running game is so bad that Dungey is our best option to get 4 yards on the ground. Given that, there is no way he will make it through the ACC schedule... I hate to say it but it’s true. My prediction is Dungey won’t make it through the FSU game.
That is why Babers pulled him and left Devito in? He needs to see what TD can bring in real game situations. But Babers isn’t stupid and won’t reveal that in a press conference or ever.

Here is my more controversial take... I think Dungey is not the QB Babers wants to start. He is inaccurate, gets too focused in on one player, doesn’t really read the field well and is too quick to take off from the pocket. This was all apparent in the first half when we were running up the score, Dungey is the same QB he was last year and the year before. I see a better athlete but I don’t see a better QB... he wants to play like Lamar Jackson but he’s not an elite enough athlete to survive the ACC playing that way. I think in that secret place where no one can go into I Babers is hoping TD will be a better QB this year and needs to figure that out. I am not privy to practice but maybe Devito is actually closer to Dungey, in practice against our D, than we know?

I think take 1 is the much more likely scenario. I also think Babers wanted the rest of the team to step up and support Devito. He knows we can't expect Dungey to be superman for 12 games.

Agree but think Dungey's accuracy was affected by his running and first game.

I think you’re over-thinking it. TD has been getting first team reps in practice to get him ready. Last night was more of the same. I think HCDB was as surprised as anyone that things went sideways with TD in there. It hurt TD’s confidence some, I’m sure. But it won’t change anything.

Good point but the thing is he is always running so he has to be able to be a lot more accurate than he was last night. He needs to be ready for game 3 and on a lot more than he was yesterday.

DeVito confidence shook. Don't think we see the best version of DeVito until middle of his sophomore year. Really difficult to follow a folk hero which if all goes well, Dungey will be. Yes he may have a faster 40 but he's not a better runner. He's a far better thrower and if we have an amazing season he should stick to that. Hoping for the best year possible but actually think if we win big might hurt DeVito but just in the short term

I missed a little when a TD was playing. What I did see was that play to Custis that got called back. I'm not even sure why as I only caught the replay but I was impressed. Also we lost a series because of the fumble. We also lost a series potentially because he tripped on the hand off. I don't feel like it was that bad. Some nerves dor TD for sure but the dude hasn't played in a game in awhile

There isn’t enough talent around Devito for him to flourish...not yet. OL was ok but not great last night. Dungey threw a couple out there to Custis but that’s it. This offense is very limited outside of Dungey’s legs and Dungey doesn’t have the kind of help that Lamar J, RGIII, Tebow, etc., had. I don’t think Devito would be able to do much in this offense currently until he gets more talent.

This is what Babers said last night - that Tommy needs perfect conditions (practice) while Eric gets us into the right play and makes the right decisions.

There’s more talent in the wings for next year. And we’ll see some freshman WR and RB talent next week.

Is this your gut feel that's never wrong (you're sorry)?

Dungey needs to not be an idiot and lower his right shoulder to get a yard. That would be a good start.

I would rather him lower his shoulder than slide. Sliding is the stupidest thing ever. it exposes your head.

The vast majority of Dungey's runs were a result of the RPO. It was his option to run based on how the defense reacted to the play. I think he only ran three times as a result of the pocket collapsing or an urge to run.

There are times he has the first down and could go down early enough that nobody would be allowed to touch him. You see other QBs in college and the pros do it all the time. Obviously, he can't avoid every hit and there are times you stretch for that extra yard at a key point in a tight game. He needs to be better at picking his spots. At this point, he should understand that his self preservation is more important to the success of the team than the extra 3 yards he'll get by trucking a LB.

Things might have went "sideways" but it wasn't because of DeVito. Pierce fumbles, Butler runs bad routes at half speed, especially on that go route, a good scramble and pitch and catch to Custis for 48 yards gets called back for holding call and on a 3rd and 2, Servais steps on DeVito's foot and knocks him down. None of that was DeVito's fault. Oh and the defensive callapse wasn't his fault either.

Caretaker...is that you?

rather draconian assessment but yes he is gonna take some pops as running option 1. been there.

The 2 halves of the WV were perfect passing ED. First half "Why throw that ball?!" Interception. 2nd half..."Why throw that ball?!" 44 yard gain by Moe.

First paragraph of this thread did not age well. I think our run game was pretty decent this year, and other than the Notre Dame game (which I still can't figure out that injury), Dungey was a warrior.

I was reading through some early season threads after WMU last night. Had some good laughs. I was also asleep by 10:30 so my NYE was pretty crazy.
