Early signing this week

Aren't the priority targets (Smith, Rippey, and Elson) not signing early? Maybe it has nothing to do with it, but it seems all the other programs Syracuse is going up against don't have the same uncertainty with the distant future. I wonder if Syracuse wasn't a serious player, if these recruits would still be waiting out the season to make their decisions and sign. I think if Syracuse has the season that internally they expect that they will and Autry is off the hot seat, that the class comes together late. Smith and Rippey especially, if by the end of the season for whatever reasons they don't choose Syracuse, they are that good that any program will make the room to accommodate them. It seems like if Syracuse performs well on the court, the recruiting will take care of itself. This is really a time to live in the moment with Syracuse Basketball, unlike Syracuse Football where it's all about the development and the future. The staff recruited well during some down times, I imagine it will only become better if they actually have results on the court to show.

They could be waiting to make sure the staff is still here.

Alos notice they don't seem to be pivoting and throwing out offer after offer, just to sign players for the signing period.

Might be 2 things, confidence in their pitch to recruits and confident this season will go well enough to where it will work itself out.

On the flip side, I saw it with Clay Helton and USC football thinking they were dead man walking during the season and not even trying to recruit, were retained and finished with a class ranked in the 70s, lol. And national pundits were asking what was that? If you paid attention, you knew.

Some great points here. As far as I can tell, the top three targets for Syracuse in this class (besides a 2027 re-class such as Clyde Walters) are Smith, Rippey and Elson, as others have noted. Smith isn't signing early. I texted with Deron's Dad earlier today. He's dropping a top 5 soon. So he's not signing early. Not sure about Asher. But as others have noted, these guys want to see how Syracuse performs, and if Autry, etc., are here next season. Plus, up to nine guys could return, and Syracuse is focused more on the portal, so yeah, this could be a small prep class, and I don't anticipate Syracuse landing any commits this week...

We also are projecting that we keep 9 players next year so we weren’t going to have a large class to begin with.
What players are expected to depart after this season? JJ (senior), Freeman (early entry NBA), Kyle (senior) and who? Sadiq?

2026/27

Naithan George 6-3 Sr ON

Kiyan Anthony 6-6 So NY

Tyler Betsey 6-8 Jr CT

Sadiq White 6-9 So NC

PORTAL C

I hope we can retain all of our players from this years squad. If we do, then we’ll need front court depth and a starting center

Souare wouldn’t be terrible at C.

And, the Frosh Big may turn out to be more than a Cat Rescuer.

But agreed - landing a solid portal C will be a priority next year.

We seriously lack some size and physicality.
Diawara, Souare, Betsey and White make a decent big man nucleus. Elson, if we get him... Then probably a transfer or two.

Too soon to worry about next season's big man depth. Enjoy Syracuse being the number 1 defensive team in the nation for a few minutes instead.
