From my "Playoffs!" write up for 2013.

Eastern Illinois got a first round bye and met Tennessee State in the second round:

"Once upon a time Tennessee State was a powerhouse. The top southern schools didn’t take black players and the Tigers, like Grambling, Florida A&M and Morgan State, among others had line-ups full of future NFL players. That was a long time ago and those players are playing for Alabama, LSU and Florida State now. This year’s squad was no match for Eastern Illinois, who had already beaten the Tigers 34-16 on 10/26. This time it was 37-0 at halftime and 44-0 before Tennessee State could score. The Panthers had a huge total yardage edge, 553-287. Shepard Little rushed for 184 yards and 2TDs. Jimmy Garoppalo passed for 240 yards and 3 scores, giving him and incredible 4,729 yards passing for the season with 51 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions. The final score was 51-10, giving the Panthers 636 points in 13 games, an average of 49 points per game."

What it looked like:
In the quarterfinals:

"Eastern Illinois was the nation’s highest scoring FCS team and looked it in the first quarter against Towson State, scoring easily on their first two possessions. People have compared them to Baylor because they run a similar offense. Towson, a power running team behind Terrence West, who had been the division’s second leading rusher, seemed out of its element. But the game was played in the elements, still another played in a snowstorm, and the power running game was the way to go. And go West did, running for an incredible 354 yards and 5 touchdowns on 39 carries. The Tigers scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter to take a lead they never surrendered. The Panther’s great quarterback Jimmy Garoppalo, tried his best to keep up, passing for 321 yards, an amazing 38 for 50- but mostly short passes) but only 2 touchdowns. Erik Lora caught 18 of those passes for 129 yards and a score. They got to within 32-35 and forced a punt in the fourth quarter. But Towson forced a punt and drove for a score and the forced a fumble on a sack and scored again to make it 32-49. Eastern scored again but it took 16 plays and 4:21. Towson was able to run out the clock on the 49-39 win."

We won't be playing in the snow unless it's in Boston or Pittsburgh. If it takes 39-49 to beat us, I think we'll still have more than our share of fun in the next few years.

Nice, good find!

our playoff games will be in good weather!

it will be interesting to see how he would meld his play calling to our talent.

BG SR is a better passer than Dungey as a FR.. have to hope that gap closes
BG #1 WR is better than ISH, but ISH is better than their #2, we just need to find 1 more and then decide what to do with Phillips/Strickland who would thrive in space and should be on the field together in 4 WR sets. we need one more WR for this system to work

the BG #1 RB is better than Frederick as a FR too. but we have more depth right now, and that spot that is not a huge drop, would be interesting to go 4 wide and Phillips as the RB

the olines are about the same, but we lose a bunch so next year will be interesting.

as for 2 years to implement it.. how much does what the OC before matter in the learning curve.. what did E. ILL or BG do before he got there.

i want phillips and strickland as fulltime WR starting yesterday

you can't put the bad lunk in our offense and dungey in theirs. the bald guy has a good arm, i'll give him that. dungey could eat up a ton of yards before anyone got within 5 yards of his head

I love when the bald guy runs and picks up 5. Dungey takes some of those 20+. But the kicker is he won't have to most of the time. The offense is so potent that it will be more luxury. Think: Clemsons QB running more vs FSU, but chilling back vs Wolford with a clean jersey.

I actually wouldnt mind seeing a shifty and quicker back in this offense to go along with strickland. Phllips or Strickland may get moved back to RB.

Moe Neal step on up!

I think Fredericks has plenty of shiftiness and speed and good power. You need somebody in the middle of a spread who can get you the tough yards and make the defenders pay. Remember the play breakdown is 55% pass and 45% running and our running back will put up huge numbers. Fredericks would flourish in this offense.

I meant to go along with Fredericks, but yeah, Strickland, Moe and Phillips are different types of backs. More of the scat back type. Fredericks is elusive for being a 200 pound kid but not like the others.
