Ed Cooley at Georgetown Water Bottle Incident

Not sure I would classify that as a toss. The throw had a lot of velocity. More than Filardi lol.
In fairness that could still constitute someone throwing a cotton ball at you.

I don’t think Cooley deserved to get suspended several games. While what he did was stupid, coaches have certainly done worse things. He lost his judgment in the heat of the moment, and I’m under the impression he doesn’t have a past of doing this kind of stuff.

However, you can’t only suspend him 1 game when that game is against Coppin State, who is 1-14 and 364 in the current NET rankings. He should’ve been suspended for a conference game as well. Suspending him for just Coppin State is a joke.

ok let's flip it. suppose i'm a fan 3 rows back who's angry at the coaching and i hurl a water bottle out of frustration in the direction of ed cooley . should i be escorted out of the building immediately or should i banned for only the next game ? should i be charged with assault ? suppose i've never done it before and am a season ticket holder of good character . can i keep my seats ? george hicker wants to know.

You would probably either be banned, arrested or both.

Moments of weakness like this happen to the best of us. During the 2014-15 game at Michigan, I forgot I was holding my infant son (I zone out when I watch Syracuse games), and when Kaleb Joseph dribbled the ball off his foot in the game's most critical possession, he accidentally slipped out of my arms and fell onto the coffee table. I think I apologized and kissed him like 200 times. We laugh about it now.

He'll remember this when he gets tasked to take care of you 🤣

How so? The only possibilities were either Red or someone who might lose it for a moment in a game and throw a water bottle?
Far from it. But the narrative is that there was no “national search”, no candidates “outside the family” and a succession plan based on the cheap and easy.
Couldn’t be farther from the truth.
I am on the fence with Autry. Not convinced he is the long term answer but acknowledge that nothing will be determined until March and am rational enough to watch how the season unfolds, cheer and support the team and staff every step of the way, and if expectations aren’t met be prepared to move on. Honestly this is the first year he has a roster even close to being willing and capable to play the style of ball that he wants to implement.

I'm not trying to be difficult here, but how is the Ed Cooley water bottle incident a cautionary tale?

Well, that’s a Christmas tall tale if there ever was one.

That’s fine. You can choose to respect and believe me or not. Your prerogative. From my perspective there is absolutely no spin to anything I post,
Maybe you’re the one who doesn’t know…

I’m not going to respect someone who tries to insult my intelligence. Let me make a few things clear, though:

1. I can’t stand it when people insist on blaming JB for the current state of SU hoops. Wildhack could have hired anyone and he chose Autry. That’s on JW and no one else.

2. I didn’t mind the Autry hire. I wanted him to succeed. At worst, the question would be answered and it would be out of the way. Unfortunately, it’s obvious that - while he’s a solid recruiter - Autry doesn’t have what it takes.

3. While the situation seems dire at the moment, a basketball program can turn things around overnight. All it takes is the right hire. We can come back and I’m confident we will.

That said, there wasn’t a national search. You know it and I know it. Most people know it. If there was, and the decision was still Autry, then anyone and everyone involved in that decision should be fired immediately. Turn over the entire administration and the athletic department. Replace the board.

Of course, that won’t be necessary, because it never happened. Happy Holidays to you, too.

We agree on much more than we disagree on. Not sure how I was perceived as insulting, but if you took it as such I sincerely apologize.. My only point of contention is that external candidates were absolutely considered and Wildhack relied heavily on his network before making a decision - a decision that was made well before the loss to Wake Forest in 2023. Whether that is considered a "national search" is open to interpretation, I suppose, but just because there were not reports of potential candidates flying into town might not be the most important factor.

Peace.
