Ed Orgeron thread...

I think Orgeron should be one of the finalists. All of the finalists should have head coaching experience this time around. Also, Syracuse should loosen the purse strings this time. They just raised a billion dollars on their 10 year program, charge one of the highest tuition rates in the country, and are one of the lowest compensation rates of all the P 5 schools. You get what you pay for!

We could certainly do worse, for sure. And as much as I like him on the recruiting trail, I would still prefer an offensive coach at this point. Give me Frost or Lincoln Riley or maybe Mike Sanford at this point, with Orgeron as a fallback.
Exactly. I keep thinking that if Coyle can't get one of those other guys his fallback is Bebe.

I would not hate Orgeron as a coach IF:

- Coyle made it abundantly clear that he (Coyle) would have some input on the OC and tells Orgeron that he wants an AHC/Offensive wiz on that side of the ball.

- He doesn't get the job, but given he's a DL right now, he goes for AHC/DC with full support from the administration if a P5 job offers him.

He might not get anything better than DC at a P5 school especially if Miles is fired and the staff is gutted.

Yeah, maybe so. But, it won't be at Syracuse.

The fact that he's openly campaigning for the job probably means he's not a candidate. I personally would not want him because of what went down at Ole Miss when he was there and the fact we are on 4 more years of probation. Do not want to risk getting slapped with worse than that and it would be too much of a risk IMO. Not to mention the NCAA will be watching Syracuse the next 5 years with everything and if Orgeron gets a chance to be a HC again somewhere they'll be watching him closely as well.

I agree with this. My first choice would be a guy with head coaching experience but I like Sanford and Frost too. I wont be totally disapointed if we end up with Orgeron. If Orgeron not hired as HC, give him the DC, recruitng coordinator and associate HC title.

I was waiting for Jeff Danish to weigh in...

Not a huge fan of EO being the guy, but not opposed to it either. I think (among the names being bandied about), he would be #4 on my list if Frost, Sanders, and/or BB don't pan out. I'm just really gun shy on another Defensive coach.

Anyone know his salary at LSU?
Two-year contract valued at $895,000 signed in January

Orgeron will make $445,000 in the first year of his deal with a raise to $450,000 the second season, with a maximum incentive bonus of $75,000 each season. His buyout terms are 50 percent of remaining compensation if he leaves for an SEC school and 20 percent for a non-SEC school.

So...

Positives for EO:
1) strong recruiter
2) Syracuse ties
3) HC experience
4) available

Negatives:
1) Failed as HC
2) Big Time recruits tied to impermissible benefits
3) Another Defensive minded guy with no ties to an offensive identity

Not a guy at the top of the list IMO.

So, he's probably the cheapest option we have.

That could work in his favor.

Isn't this the same Guy that said any Football not played south of the mason-Dixon line is a Joke

In fairness, it should be noted that he did a good job at So Cal (6-2) and everyone loved him including players, press and admin.

Ed Orgeron would bring needed excitement to Cuse Football. Before he landed in Baton Rouge, his players at USC loved his coaching style when he took over for Lane Kiffin and lobbied for him to be HC of the Trojans. If we go this route, a first-rate OC like Dave Warner would be a welcome addition to his staff.
He was awful at Ole Miss.

Fair point... If admin and players liked him so much, and even to a lesser extent the Press, then why was he not offered the gig?

Pat Haden, although a former player, is an intellectual. He did not want a "meathead" style HC for SC; which category both O and Shaf fall under imo...

So admin didn't love him then.

Imo... I know PH and his family, but no inside football knowledge. He is a former Rhodes Scholar, just a feeling he wanted a more cerebral type HC.

Edit: Orgeron is a more typical SEC type football coach. Pac 12 - think David Shaw @ Stanford
