Have we ever had a player like him? Body type similar to Arinze, but such a different game. Makes this such a different SU team than any in my memory. Who is the last big who we could run offense through, Lydon/Christmas, but they were not the passer that Lampkin is. Would be amazing if he was a little more athletic. He likely wouldn’t be in college anymore if he was.

Arinze was shorter, thicker and stronger.

Yeah very unique player. Not sure we have a real comp. Thought he worked hard on defense. It’s ugly, but he does work on that end.

It’s wild how much he plays like and reminds me of DJ Burns from NC State. Burns had more fluid, balletic movement than Eddie despite his weight. His spin moves were wild. Eddie is a better rebounder and might be an even better passer but Burns was also good at passing.

A little Bog Bob Parker, but Eddie is taller and a better passer

I like the kid. wish he worked more at free throw line more than 3 point line but whatever.

The Lampkin doubters have to acknowledge at least a couple things.

1. While you may not agree with all of Red’s portal choices, you can see the vision he had bringing Lampkin in, even with the price tag, and even with his weakness on the defensive end.

2. To question his effort is foolish. He is a warrior out there. He is not taking it easy because he got paid. He is not more focused on his dry rub recipe and other side hustles than he is basketball. He is giving this team 110%.

I'm in Crazyland with people that are like why can't our 5's be like the perfect combinations of all our best 5's ever but without all their weaknesses. Acting like a center can just be pieced together like Frankenstein, with all the good parts and none of the bad.

Our front court last year was Brown, Taylor and Benny Williams last year, just think about that for a minute.

You’re not wrong but people just didn’t want tall uncoordinated beanpoles. You’d watch a team like Drake or Ohio and wonder why we couldn’t have one of their 6-10 250 lb centers who could catch a basketball.

(Not a good fit for the zone smh)

I get the vision, I still wish we focused on PG, but if Eddie plays like he did in the second half the rest of this year, theres little to discuss. He’s doing his job. I’m concerned with the injuries though

He does not need to move to fast at all to get the job done on offense. But a lower body injury, even minor, could be trouble for his quickness on defense. That being said I surprisingly liked a lot of what I saw on defense from him yesterday. He did a good job of showing help with some of the guard match ups, sometimes even fully double teaming a guard, but getting back in position to guard the 5 before they could exploit it. It was effective at preventing guards get in the lane against JJ/Carlos. And that was even after he had started limping and hobbling during breaks. I am hoping he can gut it out tonight.

He reminds me somewhat of NCSt’s DJ Burns who was big, not the quickest runner, had some quick moves to the basket, thick and a great passer too but I think Eddie is the better passer.

To say we didn’t focus on getting a PG is just not true. We tried but failed, and we may have gotten the wrong mid major player in Carlos. There may have been others out there who could have helped us more.

I wish our #1 focus was a PG. Instead our #1 focus was Eddie. Not sure how that can be debated.

Otis Hill maybe.

Don't recall how well Otis could pass, but he was a stout & versatile interior player.
