Emanuel Ross in the portal

Was one of my favorite recruits the last few years, wish we could have had a healthy version of him and feel awful for the circumstances of his departure but it seems like he has a great attitude. Could see him at Stanford since he originally committed there. Best of luck to him.

If you were building a WR 2-deep where would you put Ross for next year?

Cook and Gill are likely locks to start. Boobie Johnson, T. Russell, Daniels, Williams all played this year and Russell looked good pre-injury. We know Fran likes to play talented guys, so C. Russell and Gough will get snaps. I bet we see more Samuel next year too.

Only so many snaps, and Ross is a guy you probably paid good money to. In this era, you have to evaluate if it’s worth it for a depth guy and who could probably get starter money elsewhere.

I’ve gotta agree. The money to pay Russell had to come from somewhere. This kid has all the talent in the world, but I can’t imagine that he’s going to be the starter with Cook, Gill, and Co.

Was really high on him coming in - hope he latches on somewhere and realizes his potential.

I think Ross would have started and Hornsby getting PT.

Most of the guys you mention are slots.

That’s nice but it’s also an outlier. You won’t be too successful of a program, consistently, relying on outliers.
Both takes are Correct. You need to recruit at a high level and more often than not, those guys work out. but I don’t like when after 2 seasons, we still refer to guys by stars.

That’s not to say I didn’t want him here or think he showed potential, but if you take the stars out of the headline, I’m not sure the reaction is the same. We lost 15 catches over 2 seasons (injuries factored in as well).

This one hurts but honestly when you look at it from the perspective of a wide receiver, this year was so egregious that it almost would be crazy to risk that repeating again for the upcoming season. So many things to fix. So it boils down to a risk reward calculation. And the risk of staying is probably too high to overlook.
