I set foot on campus in 1989 as a freshmen. That's also when my fandom and passion for all things Orange began. I didn't realize at the time, things with our football program were pretty good. It doesn't seem that long ago when we were among four or five programs with the longest consecutive winning record. Then the early 2000's happened. Then Grob happened. Losing to Rutgers. Not being able to find a suitable replacement for McNabb and the hits have just continued year after year, coach after coach.

I remember vividly the year we lost to Rutgers. I was utterly embarrassed as a fan. The loss stung. Years since then, I've found myself still holding onto the belief that we can recapture our winning ways, but it just doesn't seem to happen (at least for more than a season at a time).

I was thinking yesterday, after watching the game, that there was no sting. Nor was there any embarrassment or even frustration. This is also after one of the worst losses in program history. Those feelings are mostly lost as I've become numb to losing and looking incompetent on the field. I think I've become a bit apathetic and that's the worst feeling you can have as a fan. When you just don't care much anymore, what's the point? For me, it's not compete apathy as I still hold out for something good to happen game after game, season after season. That said, it's a feeling that I've never felt before as a diehard Orange fan.

I really hope that Babers can right the ship, I really do. However, if you forced me to wager an amount of consequence, I wouldn't put my money on it. Babers brought in new energy and generated a sense of belief among fans (and even those outside the program). I remember closing my eyes that one day and imagining the future as he was selling it. Now I just close my eyes because I can't stand to watch the product on the field any longer.

These comments were made during the gerg years as well. Utter apathy. Only differences now are ACC, better facilities commitment, and support from the admin. Maybe we just have to remain patient and hope this is all cyclical.

Perhaps there were comments from some. For me, I was still in the embarrassment phase with some frustration sprinkled in during those gerg years. It's the 12 years AFTER that time that has led to some apathy as we are STILL struggling as a program and are now heading in the wrong direction AGAIN. I'm really not sure how anyone in their right mind can tell a Cuse fan right now to be more patient.

I have to travel this week for work and I won’t be sporting any SU gear like I usually do on my trips. I just don’t feel like talking about this team or getting needled about how bad they suck. If I could drink on the plane I probably wouldn’t care but sober as a judge I just might lose my mind and be on the news tonight. Not worth it.
