Ennis a 4 year guy?

Just to summarize...yesterday Ennis was 10-40 in his college career, and roughly avging 9 pts, 4 boards, and 4 assts. Today he is better than the nba's 3rd all-time asst guy. Maybe time to pump the brakes a little bit?
If you saw the games in Canada you might have a different perspective. Yesterday was the true Tyler Ennis.

I don't think Ennis has the super athleticism that usually is what teams look for in the lottery. I don't think he'll ever be a lottery pick no matter what he does. I think by the end of next year he'll play himself into the early-mid 20's range, and I don't think he'll get higher than that whether he stays 4 years or not.

I think Ennis has a very good chance to make it in the NBA. I think his college career will be like Jimmer Fredette's career. Fredette ended up being the 10th pick in the NBA draft after his senior year. Both are 6' 2". I can easily seeing Ennis averaging 28 pts per game by his senior year just like Fredette.

I don't think it's possible for an orange player to average that many in a game. Our offense isn't set up for something like that and our defense stalls the ball. When a guy averages 20 for us it's a big deal.

i saw a graphic flashed up last night about syracuse starting frosh point guards. they featured dwayne washington of course. jason hart, gerry mac and jonny flynn. (no mention of adrian autry or brandon triche.) i think we can all agree that ennis is not the pearl. doesn't really have the defensive tenacity of hart. doesn't shoot the trey like gerry. perhaps jonny is the best comparison for tyler.

Don't even think Johnny is, Flynn was the most explosive player I've ever seen in the Cuse backcourt.

I think a better version of Brandon Triche would be a good comp. I think Ennis is better at almost everything Triche was that year but same type of style. Smooth, easy, played it smart.

Good post. I hope for nothing but success for Tyler but its a runaway train in here. And of course, this thread will set up the "Tyler Ennis Sucks" thread after a subsequent loss. K

Agreed. Flynn was an absolute tremendous athlete for a smaller guard. Ennis' game is more cerebral and I don't know if he has the same level of playmaking ability as Flynn did.

More like Sherm imo...
More heart and savvy than height, speed, quickness...
Douglas make a nice little career for himself in the Association, was a good scorer at next level too...

well #1 sherm didn't start as a frosh. secondly i think it is generally agreed here that jonny flynn was nothing more than a throw in to get paul harris in orange.

discuss.

The idea that Flynn rode Harris' coat tails to Syracuse was a popular one when Flynn was a HS sophmore. But I think it was largely debunked over the next two years. SU was just ahead of the scouting curve. By the time Flynn was a senior he was a top 20 recruit.

I would advise Grant to stay in college as long as it takes to get a consistent 3-point jump shot. Being drafted is one thing. Actually playing in the NBA is another! If Grant stayed all four years and really developed his outside shot he would be a top 5 pick. I think if he leaves after this year he will get drafted but he would probably have a short NBA career like most guys who enter the draft early.
Ever since MCW's drastic shooting improvement after being drafted, I've done a compete 180 on thinking players should stay in college to develop.

Ya great point guards like Jason Kid and Steve Nash are just fabulous athletes. He's a good athlete, but more important he's great basketball player. Superior athleticism doesn't make some one a great player.

He has great basketball skills and very high IQ and I think he will be a lottery pick whenever he declares for the draft.

I think Sherman Douglas would be the best comparison. They both have very refined overall skills and high IQ. Sherman being a bit better athlete. Ennis is a Better shooter.

Ennis is much closer to Edeln than anyone. Better J. Maybe a bit of Autry without the strength. Sherman was a water bug type.

He's much faster and quicker than Edelin. He's a good athlete with a very high basketball IQ, and poised beyond his years. I would say he's better than Mark jackson was in college. I also think that's a poor comparison as I don't see them as at all similar players.

I've noticed that late in tight games he elevates his game like a truly great player would. Enjoy this ride as I think it will be fun but brief.

Both of those guys you just dismissed got their teams to Final Fours. Let's see how Ennis does a little more before we just put him in that company.

People went "ga ga" over MCW at this time last year, he was declared the best PG in America, and it hurt his game for a while, because it went to his head a bit. His assist rate went down a bit and he started looking a little more for his own shot.

By the end of the year, we thought he might be making a mistake by leaving early, because he couldn't make an outside shot and his was still doing those stupid jump passes in traffic. MCW has really improved his game over where it was when he left here, to be playing like this in the NBA. Nobody in their right minds predicted this kind of start. But Jeremy Lin also had a stretch of magic in the NBA, too. So let's be patient. We don't know yet.

So, this was a huge step forward for Ennis, but he is not the finished product based on 1 really good game.

Maybe on offense, but Triche was an elite level defender. He used his body really well at the top of the zone. He did deserve to start when he was here. He never turned into a star player, but he was the ultimate glue guy and was a great teammate on some of our best-ever teams.

don't see the edelin thing at all. very slow and deliberate up court. back you down physically and break you down mentally (you my b#tch chris thomas)

That was more his second year. His first year, he could still run the break.

Agreed I don't see it all. Billy was just simply slow.

Yeah, thats the way I remember it to. In fact, the reports from his games at oak hill generally described him as a decent athlete.

For me, I see a shorter PG, who doesn't have blowaway athletic skills. Obviously anything can happen, but him going pro after 2 years, short of some personal situation where he needs money or isn't doing well academically, seems unlikely to me.

I think Tyler's plan since the beginning has been to leave after 2. He has sacrificed for it, going from Canada to NJ. Next years squad should be FF caliber and Tyler will be leading the charge.

Tyler will never get any taller. He will probably be at the pinnacle of his draft position after the big run in '14-'15. Staying beyond that will probably do little to improve his draft stock. Tyler has been angling for a payday for a while, after '14-'15 maximizes his payday.

I would be surprised if this wasn't the plan as seen by people/staff. It would not surprise me to know that KJ2 is aware of this plan. SU seems prepared for his departure then.
I think the bigger threat would be a FF run out of this years team. If opportunity knocks, I think Tyler is gone.
