I agree with this, and that is not a knock on Ennis. Boeheim's quote does not directly compare Ennis to Pearl or Douglas or any other PG for that matter. That comparison was inferred in the OP. I will gladly take the quote to mean, since we don't have the true context, that Ennis exhibits the same day-one leadership qualities as some of the past greats, or that he has a top-notch attitude and drive that is consistent with the best recruits that JB has landed in the past. Either way, whether out of genuine belief or as a confidence building tool, JB's statement is calculated and can only benefit Ennis.I don't want to dump on Ennis, but he is not nearly as good as Pearl or Douglas, and there is no way Boeheim believes he is. As someone else said, Boeheim has a very good reason for wanting Ennis to be confident going into the season (namely he is going to take a few lumps, and he is going to need the confidence to get through that) and Boeheim is not above using the media to advance his agenda (all coaches do it).
Lets keep our expectations somewhat reasonable. If Ennis is a competent starter as a freshman I will be extremely happy. Zero percent chance of him being the next Pearl.
