Enough with the 10 win season

His under study, Sean Lewis, off the top of my head. But, Louisville, Georgia Tech, and West Virginia, seem to have struck instant gold with their choices...

I wonder if we’d recruit better if we were academically like Louisville and West Virginia...or located in Georgia...

The Mac’s Players thing doesn’t fly on two levels: many coaches get a program with good players and very few get to 10 wins back to back. You can’t downplay that achievement.

Also, Mac won 8 and 7 his last two years with Mac’s Players so P’s accomplishment is a solid one.

I wasn't always the fairest to Coach P (I hope you were all sitting down for that bombshell).

But I always though the Mac players argument in 91 and 92 was stupid. Really stupid. It just doesn't work that way, and as you said, 91 and 92 were clearly better than 89 and 90.

I did however, think it was maybe on him when we suddenly found ourselves without any linebackers in 93. I know Mitchell was recruited as an LB then became this 3-4 DT freak of nature, and Conley was hurt. But man, where was everyone else?

Don't @ me, I don't want to start old fights (actually that was all way pre-internet, but don't want to start it now). I mean, if we don't lose 43-0 to WVU that year, then my roommate JKinPhilly probably doesn't wake up next to what I can best describe as the female version of this the next morning. What a terrifying sight that was to these hungover eyes.

Look, I concede the recruiting limitations. That doesn't explain the constant player penalties, clock mismanagement, stubborn/rigid play calling. Hiring a guy that no P5, G5, upper Div 1 school would ever consider hiring to coach the most important position on the field is worrisome. The only programs that would have hired Martin are lower FCS schools in Texas. And they would have only done it for his recruiting, not his coaching.
Year 5 Babers is the same game coach as Year 1 Babers. I don't see any improvement over the years, that's disappointing...

ha

btw that crew of 93 lbs that got run over ended up being an excellent group. Freshman are going to have issues. And marvins back was almost as big an issue

Yes, that group really did develop well. They dominated in the 95 Gator Bowl against Clemson. And I remember Cottrell was a backup to Ponds, who didn't play. Didn't miss a beat.

I'd argue that 93 offense missed David Walker as much, if not more than it missed Gedney.
